Pioneer DJ just announced the HDJ-S7 headphones. They are on-ear phones that feature 40mm HD speaker drivers and a flexible headband with swivel ear cups. Its smaller build makes it less bulky compared to Pioneer DJ’s own HDJ-X10, HDJ-X7 and HDJ-X5 headphones released last year.

The headphones get the “HD” spec because they are capable of reproducing sound up to the 40kHz range, which is a requirement for any headphone to be dubbed “high-definition”.

The HDJ-S7 is a revamp of Pioneer DJ’s HDJ-C70 released four years ago. It was aimed at DJs who prefer a more compact set of headphones similar to the Sennheiser HD-25, and we thought they were a decent pair of cans. This new model improves on the original by adding new high-resolution drivers, a sturdier headband and ear cups that swivel for versatile monitoring. The latter is crucial because it prevents the ear cup stem from snapping in the long run, which is something I experienced with my pair of HDJ-C70s. Watch out for our review of them soon.
