Dominic Souza-LarimoreParticipant
Oahu Windward side, used to live in Cali too. San Francisco for four years than Northridge for one before I decided to come back to Hawaii.
yeah its exciting, especially when i hit that mix out of the park lol. getting better by the day, still havent put together a complete set yet tho, I mean as far as getting all the mixes clean and crispy.
I do record every set I do, virtual dj makes that incredibly easy and can transfer it directly to my ipod to listen in the car or on the run.
The equipment im running is really basic, numark mixtrack, vdj, ipod dock speakers (lol), my 7 year old dell inspiron (which holds more than its own, tweaked it out for online poker) and $20 headphones from amazon. I bought the controller and headphones thinking that Im going to try it out first and see if I would actually enjoy it enough to follow through with it. Needless to say, im hooked lol. Really want to learn and indulge any and everything dj’ing. Once I get my feet planted and get more experience, Im going to upgrade for sure. Thats a sure bet, as sure as UH football will shave points to lose games. Hiyooooo! lol
Where you at and what you rocking?
Dominic Souza-LarimoreParticipantSick! Must of had alot of fun im sure, can make alot of noise lol.
Naw not playing out anywhere… yet. Just in the house in front of girlfriend and dog haha. Only been at it for a month now, but trying to absorb it as much and as fast as i can. This site is definetely helping me get on my way.
so you, got any gigs lined up yet?
Dominic Souza-LarimoreParticipantWhat up man. Hawaii having a string showing here lol.
couldn’t help but notice your Dj’ing on a beach! Sick. must have been broadcasting through your coconut speakers n generating power from your grass shack 😉
Dominic Souza-LarimoreParticipantPodcasts for sure. free live weekly mixes from some of the biggest name djs in the biz. anybody whose somebody should have a podcast.
Its fast, easy, n free on mobile on any itunes combatable* device.
IMO best n by far easiest way to find “good” new music. big name producers filtering out hundreds of songs n hand picking the best. also comes with track listings.
My personal favorites in edm

Tiesto club lifeDominic Souza-LarimoreParticipantOh sick, dj Chuck Liddell! lol
Dominic Souza-LarimoreParticipanttook me a while but i finally figured out how to map my controller, wasnt easy but i feel a bit more accomplished now. but that was stressful, time for a beer.
Dominic Souza-LarimoreParticipantI pull my revolver out and shoot at their feet until they cooperate. then let the hysterical laughing ensue…
Dominic Souza-LarimoreParticipantjust got my first controller not over a month ago, did a ton of research and have had enough experience to suggest none of the above lol. but thats my opinion. also check out the articles on this site, theres great articles on almost every new controller out there on the market.
in my breif reviews of the controllers you listed, none of them stand out as being worth over $200 for what you get.
1. probably your best bet. i have the numark mixtrack and bought a seperate sound card for $50, so its basically the same thing but for a hundred bucks less. only benefit of the pro is the built in sound card which would serve for convenience purposes.
2 + 3 are not worth the money in my opinion
4. pretty cool? but it would seem as though that technology is fairly new and will probably end up breaking in near future, or at the least just create headaches for you. and id also be skeptical of its abilities and ease of use with pcdj software.
if your willing to spend $300 on a controller, id reccommend investing another 2 to 3 hundred and getting a legitimate midlevel controller with alot more controls and functions. while mapping is possible on most controllers, its a headache if your not familiar with writing scripts. having those extra bells and whistles is something i wish i had invested in looking back on buying my first controller.
but if your just starting out and just want to learn the ins and outs of dj’ing before investing more money into a legitimate controller, go with mixtrack or mixtrack pro. its got the best reviews everywhere you look, including a five star rating by phil himself. and if you put in a little work mapping it, it can pretty much do everything the more expensive controllers can do as well.
Dominic Souza-LarimoreParticipantAlso there are at least a couple of articles on the main site that go into a lot of detail on how to approach getting gigs. good luck
Dominic Souza-LarimoreParticipantMaybe offer to do a couple or few nights for free, give it a trial run. that way u both get the opportunity to see how it turns out.
Dominic Souza-LarimoreParticipantThis thread titles looks awfully familiar 😉
Sup Troy, from Honolulu myself (grad McKinley 02). how long u been a dj now?
November 17, 2011 at 9:31 am in reply to: How much time do you spend each week looking for new tracks? #1002161Dominic Souza-LarimoreParticipantprobably 6 -8hours a week spread apart to whenever i find myself tired of my old tracks or in need of something new to spice things up.
the thrill of finding that “one” track is what keeps me motivated 😀 even if i do find 99 other duds, that one makes it all worth it!
Dominic Souza-LarimoreParticipantWhats there to hate?
Unless of course, your jealous of what hes accomplished?
I respect him as a musician, plain and simple as that. i dont like all his stuff, “sweat” and some of that other pop stuff with mainstream artists (ludacris, flo rida!!!, snoop etc). But theres alot I can get along with too.
You don’t get to be the #1 dj in the world without good reason imo
