Ha! indeed yes. I think I need to get him some headphones so I don’t have to listen to his “musical experiments”.
But it’s great to see his fascination with the concept of combining two pieces of music together to make something new.

Brilliant Will. In your attitude (and that’s at least 50% of it right there), and in the effort you took to write at up. Very concise and useful tips. You are going to be a very busy man soon. Good on you!

Hi mate, I’m in advertising, so I’ll offer you some tips from my perspective about building a brand. Becuase that’s essentially what you are doing.
Keep it short, simple, and memorable. Don’t try and be everything to everyone. And above all be true to what you are and what your beliefs are. You are a brand. What will make you memorable is not what you do (lots of different styles of music), but WHY you do it. What is your core belief which fuels your passion?
Answer that question truthfully, and this will help you find your name, and your pitch. Then try and sum it up in one simple line. And print that on the card. Nike nailed it with Just Do It. Find your Just Do It.
And sure as hell don’t bullshit – it will catch up with you. If you start your career as a fake, rather than building it on your talents, it will always be that.
If you dont believe in yourself and your abilities – then why should anyone else?
    Good luck.

Great story. And so many moments within it for you to have a heart-attack.
If anyone saw the screensaver they probably just thought “this DJ is so awesome, he doesn’t even need to see the waveforms to play – he just zones out to pretty flowers!”

That Metallica album is notorious for its dreadful mastering. And that’s what it gets down to. A well mastered 128k MP3 will sound better than a poorly mastered vinyl record. It’s actually interesting, CDs manufactured in the 80s often sound better than the new “digitally remastered” discs. Those older ones were mastered on analog gear that was at the height of the technology.

I’m with Terry. This guy obviously doesn’t respect the people who are making the music.

I don’t understand how any DJ would seriously ask another DJ to open up his collection for him to pillage like that – it’s such a bizarre request. I’ve shared the odd track with DJ friends, or swapped mix CDs with them. But would never consider offering the whole enchilada, nor would I ever expect my friends to open up their crates to me.

Yeah, my one request would be to get tapatalk working properly at some stage. It craps out when I go to read anyone’s post. But other than that, loving this forum! Thanks for all the effort Phil.

It’s great to see how many of us our out there. I’m 48 and been DJing since my mid 20s. But really been into music most of my life. DJing is just an extension of that love of music. For those of us who cut our teeth on vinyl, not having to worry about lugging a crate of records and a coffin full of turntables to a gig makes a huge difference. It’s part of the reason I got back into it and actively sought out securing a regular gig. In saying that, I still do take a bag of records and one 1210 with me! But I’m loving learning what I can do with software and my new Novation Itch. So I’m getting the best of both worlds. And so are my kids. (I posted this photo elsewhere, but it’s worth putting here as well). Here’s my son learning a bit of beat juggling.

Hehe, cheers Phil. I know, you’ve created a very friendly vibe here, so indeed I feel the same.
And your advice has already helped me choose the controller I’ve been picking your brains about.
Got it yesterday – the Twitch. I gave up trying to find a controller which is also a mixer, for my budget.
So now I’m having fun mapping it to djay.
I’ll make a post on my experience when I’m done.

Have you checked out the idj2go? Phil has done a review on his blog. Shoud fit the budget and your requirements.

    Classic!

thanks buddy. I remember those days of anxiously flipping through a sleeve of CDs or a box of records as the track was running out. Especially when turntables did not come with loops! Playlists and Itunes make it a breeze these days.

Ha – yeah. And then choosing a record. Putting it on, cuing it up, and then deciding it’s the wrong choice!
