Mixed in Key will insert cue points when it scans for key, but like Todd said, much better to do them yourself.
CraigParticipantI like the track selection, but a couple of things I would recommend:
1) When mixing tracks, turn down the bass on the track you’re going into. When you transition between tracks, bring the bass up on the new track at the same time as you turn down the bass on the track you’re exiting. At the moment the basslines are bumping up against each other making it not as smooth as it could be.
2) Slower transitions. Each mix sounds a bit rushed, sounds like you’re a bit quick on the crossfader. One way to help with both of these issues (if you’re using a controller) is to disable the crossfader and use the line faders only to transition between tracks.
It is pretty normal to not be satisfied with your mixes, as long as it’s not making you think about quitting, disatisfaction is what drives you to be better!
Keep at it!
CraigParticipantHartelijk bedankt, meneer Chuckster.
CraigParticipantI found the Serato auto gain to be not so awesome. I use PlAtinum notes as well and it works so well, I set it to -12.5 and turn the Serato auto gain off altogether. Never had a problem since!
December 17, 2015 at 12:36 am in reply to: Choosing between Serato and Traktor – specific questions/functionality #2319271CraigParticipantNo expert, but long-time Serato user
1. Don’t discount Serato Flip where you can save a whole bunch of loops, triggered cue points and that kind of stuff. I’ve never done it, but I’m certain you can save loops in Serato
2. Your SX will give you 4 channels, meaning you could have the same track playing on two decks. You could loop one deck and just play the other as normal.
3. Vintage summed up Slip Mode nicely
4. Don’t know, almost zero exposure to Traktor.
5.Vintage covered this off as well.Like someone else said above, you’ll be getting Serato with the SX2 so use that first then you can switch if you don’t like it. Could save you time and money that way.
Good luck man.
CraigParticipantThanks to everyone for the responses everyone, really helpful and appreciated.
I think I’ll be waiting until I get the word from Serato before doing the new OS download.
DDJT – There when I need you.
CraigParticipantThanks James, The second problem you describe seems close to what I’m going through. Put up a hlp request on Serato forums.was contacted by their help desk whoh thought it would be a corrupted database V2 file. I created a new one of those, loaded up Serato again, let all of the tags re-write, but up they popped again, despite the folder locations not existing.
Am in email conversation with Serato now, will let you know how that pans out.
Cheers,
CraigCraigParticipantJust hit up his Twitter feed and Facebook page asking him how did he get so many Asians to turn up to a party in Nigeria!
Seriously though, you’re not over-reacting, but don’t get sucked into any kind of online arguments or slanging matches. You got the photos down, check back every once in a while to see he’s not doing the same thing, then erase him from your mind.
CraigParticipantGood to hear it went well, one thing I select on Serato is select the option to lock the deck so that you have to stop playing a deck before you can re-load or change tracks. Saved me a few times.
CraigParticipantHello there!
No advice on DJ names.
For your set, going in slowly ascending blocks sounds like a decent idea, especially if you’re new. Don’t get too hung up on BPMs, go more with how the song feels. There are some tunes that sound tougher or more aggressive at 118BPM than other tracks at 125BPM.
Having said that, if you’re having someone playing prog house straight after you, maybe try and finish a bit faster than 110BPM, that’s pretty tough for a prog DJ to latch on to, and you can introduce some more varied tracks later in your set on your way up top 120BPM or so.Good luck!!

(Feed back please guys, good bad and the ugly :) #2048476CraigParticipantPretty good man, I think you’ve put more thought into that than 90% of other people do for their stage name! Watch out for the dub bit though, people might be expecting Dub music. Go with it.
What about ‘Rocket Man’, ‘Shocking Awe? JK…
CraigParticipantNever mind the Swedish House Mafia, it’s the Dutch House Mafia taking over this forum!
Jezh, you won’t get better advice than from these two, end your search here!
CraigParticipantI miss my teenage years….
Godspeed, my son.
CraigParticipantJourneys By DJ was incredibly influential in it’s time. Jay Chappel’s After Hours 1 still stands up and gets a play regularly. His Beach Party mix was also a perfect snapshot of the glory days of the time when house and prog seemed to compliment each other.
The first proper mix CD I bought was Renaissance 1, by Sasha and Diggers.
I own tons of mix CDs, I suppose the main difference now without CDs is the length of mixes. I’ve got no problem with DJs turning out two or even three hour mixes, but too many clock out after 60 minutes, which I always thought was a bit short…CraigParticipantWill give it a go.
