odd link didnt take first time
crem bruleParticipantcrem bruleParticipanthouse-mixes.com is looking pretty good at the moment as it allows downloads if you want to allow that.
Also Mixcloud seems to be picking up as a result of the mass exodus from Soundcloud.
Any chance of a link to some of your stuff please as this genre is right up my street.

All other factors/skills follow selection. If you play the wrong tunes for the environment/crowd or you choices don’t flow due to key, tempo, energy etc you can forget all the scratches and tricks as they wont help you hold a dance floor
crem bruleParticipantGlad you are all sorted
crem bruleParticipantDJ Vintage I am pretty sure I did not need to create an aggregate device on my MBP for my cdj 900s , as I use a DJM 850 (which is what the OP says is available) it acts as the sound card not the CDJs so why aggregate their soundcards?, the players are just control devices.
As the sound is being routed through the DJM850 the output from the Traktor decks are assigned to the mixer channels via Pioneer Setup Utility and within Traktors input/ouput routings.
As the OP mentioned CDJ 2000s not just 850s there are two slightly different methods as far as I can see. The 2000s are advanced HIDs so when you hit the link button the player asks you which Traktor deck you would like to control from it so that is how the Mac knows which deck is controlled by the different players. The mapping is loaded automatically unless you want something that has been remapped for additional Traktor features.
There is a different procedure for the CDJ 850s as shown in Terry’s link, I presume down to the fact they aren’t Advanced HIDs and therefore need the TSI files loading in manually.
Which is why I suggested the OP find out what was available before going down this route as the work involved in setting up the CDJ850s is longer winded.
crem bruleParticipantGulli if the mixer is actually a DJM850 or DJM900 NXS there shouldn’t be a need to aggregate the cdjs as the mixers soundcard can be used. The CDJs are then just advanced HIDs, but I am unsure if CDJ 850s are supported as HIDS in Traktor.
OP you need to clarify exactly what gear is available if you want to use Traktor otherwise just prep for using USBs is my advice. If you use MAC I suggest getting Rekordbuddy and sync your Traktor library with Rekordbox. Makes prepping your usb drives easy.
crem bruleParticipantI don’t buy this Terry I am afraid. Do you think clubs will ever move away from having CDJs (or whatever the next iteration of this is) together with external mixer set ups installed?
Having a industry standard style set up ensures that whatever DJ turns up to play they can jump on the clubs installation with minimal fuss. If every DJ has to brings their own kit, sets up in between slots, things will end up going t*ts up at some stage.
That’s why the current Pioneer system suits pretty well if the DJ uses Audio CDs that is fine, If they use Record Box that’s fine also, If they use Traktor that can be catered for and even Serato with the SL box is doable. Even someone turning up with iToys can link up in some way.
Now not every club is going to have the newest whizz bang Pioneer set up so if a DJ turns up to play and they are au fait with the the CDJ workflow and they have the appropriate media with them (Audio CD, USB drive etc) happy days play on!
To say this is the stone age seems a bit odd as it covers all eventualities, something a club business should be doing.
To the OP the minimum CDJ for HID contol is the CDJ900 , mixer wise you could take your pick if you run through an NI Audio 6 (or above) or a DJM 850 as a minimum with a sound card built in.
Personally I would take a look at the XDJ-R1, it does Audio CD, does USB and works with Traktor, the main thing with it though is it emulates the CDJ work flow without the expense and more complex setup.
crem bruleParticipantThe intentions isnt to broadcast whilst playing out, but I do occasionally when at home.
crem bruleParticipantThats sort of the idea but I dont want the rest of the software on view. I don’t want anyone to see I am playing a premixed set with sync on – I jest of course!
What started me wondering if this was possible was down to watching what Shoutcast and Icecast do when broadcasting, they read the metadata and transmit this to the listener, so in theory this should be possible.
crem bruleParticipantI dont think I could charge friends even a nominal amount. Would be happy to do a swap with them for time.
ie My partner and I have a few friends who a tradepeople. so if it was a gig for a plumber I would ask for some plumbing work in return. I don’t know what I would ask from an office worker though- possibly to make the tea and sit about abusing my free internet?
In fact now I think about it its all a bit Don Corleone – ” Someday , and that day may never come, I will call on you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this DJing as a gift on my daughter’s wedding day”
April 12, 2013 at 3:06 pm in reply to: Upgrading Controller and need some options? Advice please! #39069crem bruleParticipantcough Traktor!
I have moved from VDJ to Traktor and currently like it better. However when VDJ 8 comes out I will give it a try.
I cannot comment on Serator as I have never used it.
crem bruleParticipantHi Daniela, welcome to the forum and to digital djing. I am sure you will love it.
BTW the Pioneer XDJ Aero looks fantastic, I am sure it will do eveything you need to get started and so much more.
I would recommend signing up for the How to DJ Fast course if you havent already. It is money well spent in my book as it takes you through from absolute beginner to putting together your own mixes in easy steps. Phil makes it really easy to understand what going on and you can take it at your own pace. I still go back over the lessons if I am struggling with something in particular to see if I can pick anything up i missed first time around.
Put the effort in and you will soon reap the rewards but most importantly enjoy it.
crem bruleParticipantI have just managed to do away with an Audio 6 in my set up, cannot see the point in having an extra link in the chain if its not really needed. The soundcard in the S4 should be man enough for your requirments.
oh btw dont get me wrong the Audio 6 is a great piece of kit and did eveything I needed but it has just been superceeded by a scratch certified mixer.
April 10, 2013 at 9:38 am in reply to: Upgrading Controller and need some options? Advice please! #39000crem bruleParticipantI use my TM2 for 4 channels in VDJ and Traktor without any problems, granted you need to switch from decks A to C and B to D so only have two sets of eqs and transport controls available at any one time but with a bit of practice it is completley doable. I just use the tm4 mappings in VDJ.
Not sure if this is allowed but my TM2 (6 months old) may be up for sale as I have been treated by himindoors to a cdj 900/djm 850 set up for my birthday so it has become surplus to requirements.
