Reliable mappings for other brand controllers would be nice. There is one for the Pioneer WeGo. Whoever develops one for the DDJ-SX could make some serious money right now! I wish I understood how to program mappings.

I use a free and very well featured program called MP3TAG which you can download from http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html . It allows me to format the track information (Song Name / Artist / BPM / Year / Genre /comments) exactly the way I want my midi controller to see the information as well as remove additional manufacturer track information like album name, track number, etc, that I do not need, I also rename the actual file name in a specific format based on my DJing style. It also allows me to remove the track cover art which adds time to Traktor to index the files on startup and it does not lose any of the key information that Traktor added for me.

The DDJ Wego is being used by 2 other friends who do clubbing. It has plenty of features for anyone and is compatible with Traktor, Serato, and Virtual DJ, so you have a wide choice. Make sure you have an Intel i5 dual processor as an i3 can barely handle the resource load with Traktor and the WeGo, and my friend Mike’s system is red-lining frequently on the system resources. You also need a laptop that can handle the USB power requirements of this unit. Mike had to get an external powered USB hub as his WeGo was eating up more power than his i3 laptop could provide. He is upgrading his system. Also confirm it will run on a USB3 or USB2 connection. My Kontrol S2 only runs on a USB2 port and performs very well but can’t be detected by Traktor on a USB3 port. Having USB3 ports with a USB3 external drive is extremely useful for directory indexing and track loading speed especially if you get into mashups and fancy performing where load speed is crucial. Hope that helps and good luck.

    a bit about me:

    – starting at house parties, hoping to get into the clubbing/bar scene one day
    – i’d say starting out i would travel a lot, which is why the wego appeals to me… but the dj ergo sounds like I could use it longer term as I get good
    – its my first controller, so I figured the extra 200$ if i go with the wego can be used on headphones and purchasing songs
    – i only use VDJ and its all i use which is why i like these two controllers
    – my music would be alll over the place (edm, top 40, rock, rnb rap) but I’m all about just transitioning to the next song to the next while trying to keep the crowd moving. A little ADHD with my music actually ;P

I’ve seen youtube videos of what the wego can do and its amazing! But perhaps the extra features on the ergo seemed better long term? but damn that portability is sure nice!

May I recommend a FREE MP3 tagging tool called MP3TAG which can be downloaded from http://www.mp3tag.de/en/. I have used it with much success as a Traktor user. It can do batch saving and is customizable. It also let’s you remove the cover images from tracks. The track cover images slow down indexing of your tracks. I have never had issues using it and it has sped up my tagging process.

Be aware that the DDJ WEGO uses a lot of USB power and is only USB Powered. Make sure you have an additional powered USB hub just in case. It depends on the system you are using. This is based on a friend’s experience with his; it hung up 4 times in one night and he ended up plugging it into another external powered USB hub which resolved his hang issue . It is a very popular and portable little system and works with Serato, Traktor, and Virtual DJ.

in reply to: Traktor 2.6.1 now with Key Detection #37347

This has been a large topic of discussion online so I want to set the record straight on how this works since I was also stuck on this.

I was successful at discovering how to run the key detection in Traktor Pro 2.6.1.

The detection must be run on a full directory, one directory at a time, and allowed to complete, so be patient.

Since no one seems to have posted detailed instructions (including NI), here is how I succeeded after some research and trial-and-error:

These are the directions for Windows-based PCs but should be similar for the Apple platform

Because this takes time, I proposed you start this and let it run overnight as needed if you have large directories of music

1.I suggest you enable the Status Bar in the Traktor Preferences window under “Browser Details” and check “ Status Bar/Error Messages” to allow you to monitor the progress of the detection.

    2. Pick any music directory to start.

3.Right-Click in the title bar for all you tracks in that directory, then enable the “Key” Column.

4.Click on any track to highlight it, then execute a “Control-A” to select all tracks in that directory. They should all be highlighted now

5.Right-Click in any track and select “Analyze (Async)”.

6.In the Analyze window, select Special, Select Key, and then click “OK”.

7.The detection process will start and you will see the status bar progress for each track until it reaches the last track in the selected directory. DO NOT INTERRUPT THE DETECTION AND LET IT FINISH THAT DIRECTORY.

8- When the current directory detection is finished, then you can repeat the above process on other directories.

9 – – All the keys will appear in white initially and will only assume their assigned key colors when you sort on the Key column by clicking the Key column header.

    10. I also noticed that when you re-start Traktor Pro 2.6.1, the keys are in white again and you must sort the keys again to have them assume their assigned key colors.

Hope that helps many of you with this puzzle and please share this information.
