Nah man I actually do hip hop at the moment. My EDM catalog is nearly nonexistent. I think eventually I’d like to branch off and take on other genres, but at the moment I’m going to stick with what I know. I’ve only been in the Springs for a few months so I’ve only hit up a few clubs (The Mansion, Blondies, Ritz, Sodos, Thirsty Parrot) They all seem to play mostly current pop songs. Blondies does play some EDM though. Right now my venue of choice is the bedroom lol. I’ve only been DJ’ing since December so I’m still getting my feet wet. Hoping to do local house parties and guest spot at a club eventually.

Qbert – I pretty much was in the exact same position you are in now. I had no idea what a controller was when I purchased my NS7 so I was very surprised to learn that thats exactly what my NS7 was. I must say I’ve grown to love this piece of equipment. It has the same look and feel as two turntables and a mixer, and from what I’ve seen in videos performs just as well. I’d definitely wouldn’t hesitate to take the NS7 out of the bedroom and play live at a house party or gathering. I’ve even seen on YouTube DJ’s using the NS7 in the club and during their radio sets! So for me that’s all the validation I need to continue to use my NS7 as I hope you will too.

With the internet being what it is today I can usually figure out a song I’ve never heard before from an unfamiliar artist by googling as much of the lyrics as I can remember. That’s how I found out the song with “up, up, here we go…” was Rocketeer – Far East Movement. Not a song by Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes that I thought it was originally.

Yep, done that one too. I think I’ve mostly used for times when I’m not paying attention and I realize I have seconds before track A ends. I’ll just “pump the brakes” on track A and try to bring in track B “on beat” without actually being fully beatmatched.

Mixing mostly hip hop tracks am I more limited compared to a House/EDM DJ as far as transitioning options?

Noob here. Still working on content for my FB page and I’m still trying to get myself to tweet from my DJ page on Twitter. Feels like I have an alter ego or something hahaha but:

    Twitter.com?DJDMeaner

any like/follow will be matched by one from me.

    Thanks guys!

I saw this video and really fell in love with the idea of playing multiple audio clips while still doing your thing on your controller. I feel this brings would expand my possibilities for coming up with creative mixes. I know Itch has the SP6 feature, but I don’t like the idea of having to mess around with my laptop to initiate the samples etc.

I totally forgot all about VDJ. I did some quick research on the NS7/APC40/VDJ compatibility and it seems like it all could work. I’m going to try to get my hands on VDJ sometime this week and test it out.

This is where I’m currently “stuck” at creatively. I’ve gotten into a habit of killing the bass of track A, waiting for a break in track A, bring in track B with the highs and mids low and the bass booming, eventually killing the volume on track A and bring track B to full volume. I’ve also come accustomed to the backspin which has gotten pretty old to me already. I’ve tried my hand at trying to “scratch out” track A, but it just never seems to sound right. I’ve also tried a 1 beat loop on track A then killing the volume. This works about 50% of the time. Sometimes it sounds great and transitions into track B well, and other times it just sounds like garbage. Usually because I’ll grab the 1 beat loop on the wrong beat.

I’m hoping you guys will be able to school me in different techniques to use so I can keep the party jumping!

Its not so much the software (though I’ve heard Ableton is a great piece of software ). My main focus is being able to use the APC40 with my NS7. If I could use both with Itch that would be fine with me. But as far as I know the APC40 doesn’t work with Itch that’s why I’m trying to figure out if there is a way to have both programs “play nicely” with each other.

This maybe a dumb question, but would using an external soundcard for the NS7 and APC40 allow me to sync Ableton Live with Itch?
