Mobile DJ’s represent!
This picture is a bit outdated…I now have Chauvet Colorstrips and other led aggressors etc. as opposed to par cans. also use a Novation Twitch instead of that cheapie mixtrack pro 😛railings_731@yahoo.comParticipantChuck van Eekelen, post: 39491, member: 2756 wrote: I have stopped it a mobile gigs when thing got out of hand in the crowd (too much rowdiness going on, on the verge of a major fight breaking out).
The only other time was the best night I ever played in Germany many years back. It didn’t matter what I played (the manager had asked me to play some bad music so not everybody would be dancing, the bar turnover had come to a complete halt by then), people would just keep dancing. When the manager went ape … I just killed the music mid-song, went on the mic, told everyone we were taking a drink break and we would be back in 3 minutes … It was a hoot.
Greetinx,
C.Great story! haha
railings_731@yahoo.comParticipantI’ve Got A Feeling by black eyed peas….it’s overdone….but its perfect for an opener song (if you’re not playing a club)
railings_731@yahoo.comParticipantI use a Chauvet Colorstrip and a American DJ Agressor with a simply T-bar stand. I also use a cheap haze machine and small lazer. The setup cost me $400 and takes 20 minutes to set up. It’s easy, small, and simple. Customers love it and I get referred to friends simply because of my small yet fun light package.
railings_731@yahoo.comParticipantI take issue with your statement that the Mixdeck-NS6 and NS7 are their money-makers – this simply isn’t quite true. While obviously those controllers are the most pro, Numark is making cash by the boatload selling consumer and pro-sumer products such as the Mixtrack Quad and Mixtrack Pro. the MTP has been the biggest selling low-end controller for 2 years running – Why should Numark stop making consumer and pro-sumer products that are flying off the shelves? The NS7 II is great, the NS6 still works fine, and touring/gigging DJ’s like them and have the $$$ to shell out. Numark is focusing on the lower price point, all the kids who want to get into DJ-ing but don’t have $800+ to shell. They shouldn’t slow down, because their economic model is perfect right now.
railings_731@yahoo.comParticipantRemember: This Prom isn’t a club – its a bunch of high schoolers. they are not there for the vibe and new tunes, they are there for their friends and themselves. Play ALL the songs they know. I just got done playing an early prom and shamelessly played old Brittney spears and cotton eye’d joe. If your Dance-portion consists of 90% Top40 from the past 10 years, you’re honestly on the right path. I would stay away from dubstep for a prom – its not as big as we all seem to think it is, and the 70/140BPM variety is pretty undance-able.
Important – have good slow dance songs (Wanted, Forever Young) – ALWAYS have a banger that EVERYONE knows lined up. Play the banger directly after the slow dance song. Whenever you bring the energy level down, make sure to jack it right back up again.
If you mis-read the crowd and select a song that clear-ish-es the dance floor, play a line dance song RIGHT after. Depending on when the Prom ends, play Sandstorm by Darude with 1hour left to go – that song always sends the high schoolers into a frenzy and in the mood to go bonkers for the last hour.
GOOD LUCK =)
railings_731@yahoo.comParticipantP.S. i forgot to say that i also used vdj pro. it was perfect for the job.
railings_731@yahoo.comParticipantHey Nerf,
You’ll have no problem mapping the Akai to trigger the samples. I did the same thing with my old mtp and lpd8. It’s an easy way (and crazy cheap) to get started with finger drumming and all that good stuff. For added fun/flavor, try using one-word samples and use them like you would be finger drumming. You can do some fun chopped vocal stuff that way 🙂
Happy drumming!
February 19, 2013 at 3:11 am in reply to: What's everyone's views on the Novation Twitch in early 2013? #36899railings_731@yahoo.comParticipantI bought myself a Twitch for christmas as an upgrade from the Mixtrack pro and moving from VDJ Pro 7 to ITCH. I personally HATE Itch’s search capablility (VDJ just rocks with the search function). The view of “pro” grade material in my opinion is totally based on your workflow. are you a club dj that wants to use the house kit? maybe the ns7 II or DDJ-SX is more “pro” for your world of DJ-ing. I myself am a mobile dj first and a club dj second. I would laugh at someone who did the gigs i did with an NS7 (carrying that lugging thing around? no thanks). the Twitch is “pro” for me because if its incredible small-ness and surprising durability. All i have to do is throw my laptop and Twitch in my (plug) UDG bag and BOOM off i go to my gig, with NO hassle. Plus, once i get to the gig, the Twitch is small enough that i can literally fit it almost anywhere (or right beside the house kit in a club’s booth). In terms of value (recent price slash), durability, and function, the Twitch still is sitting comfortably in it’s own niche – no other “pro-sumer” controller can touch it. sure, it isnt as ‘ballin’ as a ddj-sx or ns 7II, but it fills it’srole perfectly and fits many mobile dj’s workflow better than any other controller. Plus, with Serato DJ coming to Twitch soon, it’s value will rise again. I dont see the Twitch going anywhere untill a big reveal in the summer shakes things up.
railings_731@yahoo.comParticipantanyways….15,000 watts of subwoofer glory and 10,000 watts in the mains. with Pro lighting all night…it was so much fun 🙂 We had a guy with an old rusty school bus shuttle people in from the city haha
railings_731@yahoo.comParticipantrailings_731@yahoo.comParticipantMe and campus just THREW DOWN one of those just last weekend 🙂 2,500 people that night! Each DJ got to throw down their own style. We had everything from hardstyle to progressive house to trap to DnB to Techno to Dubstep to Moombah 🙂
I’ve tried to upload a few photos…but they are too large i guess 🙁

amen to that.
railings_731@yahoo.comParticipantMixtrack pro is the king of that price point – it was my first controller and i still have it as a backup. works like a charm with VDJ. nothing else at that cost really holds a candle to it.
