    I thought id get involved;

    This tune is just a disgusting horrible monster, everything it needs to be. Its bass and sub bass just growl. Proper dirty drum and bass. To drop this tune, a nice big build up, “Today we’re cancelling the apocalypse!” just does it for me!

    Ill just add in for you the SR is not a 4 deck controller, capable yes, but you have two lines of EQ which means 3/4 will use same as 1/2. not ideal.

    Im an sx2 owner and love it, its future proof, it has everything youll need for the next 10 years atleast! however…

    decide if youre going to buy into rekordbox and if you are, go for the rx, colour fx(which i really want just because) otherwise theyre the same just one for serato one for rekordbox, ofcourse you can cross over, but dont think the rx will work with serato i havnt seen anything saying it will be supported?

    He is awesome! I had the pleasure of seeing him this year, two notable things;

    His clap is really loud.
    He is f***ing HUGE! He is so built! He is an absolute monster behind the decks.

    but yes, i think youd be quite surprised about how many actors all so have other past times, take a look into Craig Charles of Coronation Street for example!

    I dont deal with the mobile side of things, so im going off my own logic, if the booking is one you’re interested in etc etc, i think negotiating slightly could be in your favour, maybe amend the contract to say that under the circumstance that equipment is damaged/stolen yakka yakka yakka, you will claim on your insurance however the customer must cover the excess fee. Means you’re not out of pocket at all?

    Hi Robbie,

    Congrats on your SB, good choice!

    In terms of managing your entire music library, id strongly suggest going through and deciding what you’re actually going to play, from my 5k tracks/90gb library for general listening to on my laptop for djing i have about 500 tunes, i play predominately across 6/7 different genres, and then x amount of subgenres.

    My Personal Set up in Serato is a crate for each genre, i then add any notable sub-genres, say for example Drum & Bass > Jump Up, and then once in there i comment on all my tracks and have my own rating system which works quite well for me.

    For the purpose of you practising id stick to one genre, find 30 tracks of that genre or similar, searching through masses of tracks to find something else to play quickly gets tedious, stream line it, you’re not going to play S Club 7 that wangled its way into your library are you? Get started on them, learn the tracks and their phrases and go from them, if youre wanting to go down the digital route aswell, its quite essential to make sure all your beatgrids are set correct, it means things like the loop function work a hell of a lot cleaner for you and youll skip a lot of frustation while youre playing!

    Not sure if you’ve seen todays news but PRS are now starting legal proceedings, i could very much see soundcloud being offline in 6 months time. While there product has changed DJing/new music for a lot, they suck. They’ve had 5 years to strike a deal with PRS and haven’t, just refused they need a license. I only upload mixes there and mixcloud seriously out does them, im mixcloud all the way, they’re set up to work PRS and labels to monetise streams like it should be done. I think once soundcloud goes offline, and i think it will, something else will come and takes its place but learn from its mistakes!

    I think its how do you see the set you’re playing, is the gig a regular bar/club crowd pleasing whatever gig with popular tunes, or a little deeper, more an expression of yourself through your music selection etc. For me im normally the latter or try to head down that way. So on a moral basis, i would not however, I dont actually own any of his tunes its not my scene!

    I think before you can even start to debate if the club scene is dying in the UK, you actually have to define what a club is?

    Is it the typical Night Club you’ll find stag and hen dos on a Friday or Saturday? or is it places like Fabric and Warehouse Project in Manchester? To the more extreme, I guess pop up clubs like A Wing in Lancaster(Rave in a prison).

    To me a club is the latter. Where you have a proper sound system that doesn’t get ragged, because professionals operate it, with “proper” DJ’s, however you choose to define that and proper visuals & lighting. The little “nightclub” down the road that occasionally does the under 18’s event, that isn’t a proper club, nor can it compete with a well run local event in whatever setting(Personally I now look for unusual venues), and that’s why they’re shutting down.

    I think the UK scene is very much alive and kicking but no longer in clubs. I can go to a poor nightclub, with aggressive door staff, surrounded by idiots fueled on expensive drinks looking for a fight(because that’s how your night ends) on a weekly basis or I can go to a rave in a Prison with international DJ’s, the choice is simple. People who go out for the music are finding themselves in more unique experiences. People who go out to get drunk or to pull are the ones ending up in the closing night clubs, because the clientele aren’t loyal and wont support a venue, they’ll just jump ship to the next crappy place. and to them clubs that are closing, Personally the operators aren’t interested in music, or “vibe”/mood of the club. They’re interested in profit. Money hungry corporate entities after money, and that is why they fail.

    Take as many precautions as you feel necessary, and also have http://www.djguard.co.uk/ or something similar.

    … Go with an honest approach to the situation and tell your friend/bar owner that you’re simply not ready.

    Come clean, be honest and don’t burn the bridge. You turn up Friday and mess it up, which without being rude, sounds like you may experience “on the night problems”… you’re going to burn that connection.

    If I was in your shoe’s I’d come clean with the venue and not go ahead with it.

    If you do choose too go ahead with it on Friday then;

    Download Algoriddim Djay – https://www.algoriddim.com/

    This would support your tracks in spotify and your MP3’s, I think it even has an auto mix function, I personally haven’t used the software so can not confirm this. I’d spend whatever money you considered going to spend on a controller and buy the full version of the software, you can then use sync etc and control everything from your laptop, probably your best chance of getting something learnt for Friday, concentrate on learning the software rather than a controller, a controller makes things easier in controlling the software but ultimately you can do it without. With the timescale going for learning the software seems a better idea.

    Either way, Good Luck.
