Vintage has pointed you in the right direction, as a SX2 owner, I can personally say that unit will tick all your boxes listed, and probably more! The only thing ive found i cant do from the controller is eject a deck, although havnt actually checked the manual, id be surprised if there isnt a way!

What’s this manual thing you speak of vintage???

When I got my Sx2 upgrade from a behrinnger bcd3000, getting to know the layout and my workflow was my main priority, if I were you I’d get use to mixing across 3 decks without any effects or anything like that, slowly put in software effects then move onto flip, sampler etc I barely use the 4th deck i normally just put a jack into it and my phone connected as a back up, even when practising it’s good to be able to activate your rescue plan right?

Awesome piece of kit though good investment!

    Hi vintage.

Yes, I normally have a few tracks stacked in all honesty I normally half 1 bass up and the next half way down. And on three tracks playing the same but take one bass completely out.

I need to read up properly on sound cards to do excuse my naivety although kinda hoping it’s not a mixer issue.

Going to take a look at your third point tonight, everything gets trimmed once in the controller but hadn’t thought about if it’s clipped before it gets there! Thanks!

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for your help! Controller software is fully up to date also did that when reinstalling serato. My contrer the sx2 has a built in sound card it’s actually a stand alone mixer so I’m thinking it won’t/shouldn’t be(hoping) it’s not an issue with the sound card there. Ccleaner and disk defrags are scheduled to automatically happen weekly, although I may set one off now, no harm. I’ve played/practised/messed for about two hours tonight and now I’m paranoid about popping so really struggling to hear if yesterday’s adjustments have worked any magic, although gut feeling says helped slightly but not completely. Triple drops that normally sound sweet are sounding, well, pretty poo. In terms of laptop being slow, nope nothing and been doing a lot of web design/images etc on it this past week and been working perfect!

Emazing, thanks for the suggestion but already done ;(.

    Hi Bob,

Windows 8 pro 64 bit. I have a separate djing profile on the laptop but still make sure nothing other then serato runs. I5 6gb laptop Fujitsu life book.

Uninstalling antivirus and reinstalling serato seems to have helped things today.

I don’t know the gaming scene that well in all honesty so couldn’t honestly advise, but there’s a difference between stealing something copyright and taking inspiration from it. What i think may look unique/cool is taking the single shape on the e and changing the colour of it to your favorite colour. Creates a focal point and a unique logo that, people will recongnise to be you if they know you. Maybe even flip it 90 degrees so its just a diamond?

For what it’s worth, my opinion:

Pick a font you like and run with it nothing to complicated. Some of the logos/names I love are where you take the characteristics of one letter and add that to make your logo.

Check out people Like Andy C, Skrillex for what I mean.

The Skrillex one I really enjoy, If you find some pictures of his latest stage set-up you’ll see the “ill” of his name becomes the forefront of his spaceship. So simple, yet so recognisable. Absolutely no over kill but it gives him a major marketing identity and makes his name a brand.

Hope this ramble a) makes sense b) gives you some ideas 🙂

    Like terry before me this is my opinion;

As a DDJ-SX2 owner, the thing in incredible. there’s so much to it and everything has the quality you’d expect from pioneer. its a standalone mixer as well which if in future you want to add into your setup, easily done. For me, and i was in the same situation of deciding between the sx and the nv, the nv is based on putting the laptop away, if i wanted to do that i wouldn’t be using a controller…

I Personally use Sennheiser 25-1 HD, I’ve used them for personal and music(Drums, recording, Djing) and they are just fantastic, I’ve pretty much used them everyday for the past 3 years, and while showing signs of wear, all components replaceable, I’d look into them if i was you for your price range! Just my opinion!

Not much help but just a quick note for you, the SX2 is the same price as the SX. I have one due either this week or next month(there’s been a monumental mess up with pioneer shipping to the uk) so will hopefully be able to report back on the SX2 soon for you!

I’m probably not the most experienced to be giving advice but, I was in a similar position as you, I ended up wanting the SX, and actually found it online at £595 new, As i feel it’s a controller you’re not going to be growing out of at all until new features are released. I’ve eventually ended up with an SX2 on order. and this is the point, with the SX2 now coming out(UK Shipment has been delayed) I imagine once people start upgrading(next couple of months) you’ll see some good second hand SX’s about, so this would help on the price point of view. I guess if you’re already leaning towards 4 Channels because that suits your work flow, getting a 2 channel would just leave you spending more money on a 4 channel at a later date?

I’ve thought about this and it seems flawless… Burn down a DJ friends house, but luckily he managed to save his gear from getting burnt and you’re just storing it for him?

Hmm, sense is being spoken. I think that pretty much settles that, I may well leave it for a month just as a precautionary measure and gives me time to go out and do some touchy/feely sessions and make sure I’m enjoying what I’m about to buy and that I haven’t overlooked anything!

Cheers for the help man, really appreciated!

    Hi Greentinx,

Solid advice really, in terms of features I’m liking the look of touch sensitive knobs stolen from the NS7 2(ruled out on price) I’m in no real hurry to buy, what I have at present is fine for what I’m doing, the audio isn’t great and other little things, but it does mean I’m in not hurry to buy however yes I do agree, what is the right amount of time to wait?

    Cheers for the reply!

    Dom
