Check out Numark Lightwave for use at smaller gigs (~50 people). Dimensions are 8.4 x 29.2 x 10.1 and weigh 23 pounds. 100w continuous and 200w peak. They have built in lights if you are playing a small show and don’t want to deal with transporting a full lighting rig. I’d still want a sub, and there are some good powered subs out there that are more compact (15 inch) and lighter. There are speaker stands with cranks on them, making it easier to raise/lower if you go with something heavier. Search for Lightwave on this site you’ll find a some info on them.

As a counterpoint, there’s some very great music out there that just begs to be cranked up. I mean, who hasn’t blasted Highway Star on their 8-track cruising down the open highway in their ’69 Mustang Fastback!

Kudos to you for mixing metal! I’ve done a few giant house parties full of metalheads and they were the best crowd. There was even moshing after a few drinks, just had to work them up to it. Tracks from bands like Enslaved, Emperor, Immortal, Bathory, Gorgoroth etc. are well suited for insane mashups and radical mixing, throw in some death metal tracks from Morbid Angel, Immolation and Cannibal Corpse along with old school thrash like Testament, Exodus and Overkill and some Doom Metal as well, the sonic possibilities are endless. As far as continuing to learn, you’ve come to the right place. There are some great courses here at very reasonable prices that will advance you quickly along your DJ path. Keep asking questions! There is a lot of experience at DDJT and you’ll usually get a few helpful responses.
