In spite of that, I’d love me a Funktion One
ellgieffMemberellgieffMemberDepends on how many bits you chop off them while they’re doing it.

I will post some mixes when I get home.
On a side note see the bottom of my OP? It asked an I wrong here….asking what other pps opinion is. Seriously why r u taking this so personally? Jeebus
So my guess was wrong. It happens.
On a side note: I’m not taking this personally. That’s twice you’ve had a pop at me, though (once for not being on topic, which I am, and once for taking it personally). What I have done is express an opinion different to yours.

And im not putting any requirements on anyone…this is just a discussion based on observation, and i wanted other peoples opinion on it.Please stick to the topic at hand.
I am sticking to the topic at hand. You’re saying “I don’t think he’s a real DJ, because he doesn’t mix like me”. I’m pointing out that this is analogous to the people who say “I don’t think he’s a real DJ, because he uses a MIDI controller”. It’s garbage when they do it, and it’s garbage here.
As a personal preference, I don’t like “30 tunes in an hour” mixes. That doesn’t mean you’re not a DJ because you mix that way – it means just that I have a different preference. It probably also means that we play different styles of music – I’m guessing you play a lot of remixes of commercially successful tunes where “mix in, Verse, Bridge, Chorus, mix out” works?
DJ’s _are_ glorified jukeboxes. Get over it.
ellgieffMemberDo yourself a favour. Google the “No True Scotsman” logical fallacy. It’s what you’re doing here.
DJing is playing recorded music for other people’s entertainment. That’s all it is. It’s all it’s ever been. The “you’re not a real DJ because: you don’t play vinyl / don’t play in clubs / don’t produce your own music (I’ve seen this said. srs)” is rubbish, please stop doing it.
You can add all sorts of other requirements to yourself – so you’re free to think you’re not a real DJ because of some mystical thing that you don’t have. It’s not OK to put that on other people.

ellgieffMemberHe’s utterly and completely irrelevant to what I do. The only interesting part is watching people make claims about the “purity” of dance music, in comparison to pop.
Which is actually talking about the “purity” of non-commercial music in comparison to commercial music.
Which misses the point that the commercial nature of the music doesn’t actually make _any_ statement about the quality (and or purity) of that music …

That’s pretty sweet, man.
ellgieffMemberMy favourite DJ is me. He always plays the tunes I like, and mixes them in ways that are interesting to me.
😛
ellgieffMemberI love my Sennheisers. I’d say buy him those, rather than something else and he ends up buying Sennys anyway 😉
ellgieffMember*watches with interest*
I’ve tried, and tried – but struggle to talk about myself in the third person, and I always end up playing it for wry laughs

*nods* Stickies for gearpr0n ftw!
ellgieffMemberellgieffMemberI think you misread the commandment, bro. The suggestion about streaming “other” music was about streaming stuff you’re not intending to play in your set – so for personal listening, don’t clog up your DJ software with, say, the entire back-catalogue of AC/DC.
I ignored it, being in one of those countries that doesn’t have those kinds of streaming sites available.
ellgieffMemberThe day the superstar DJ thing dies, the day people stop going to “see” a DJ show, the day people realise “the experience” is about how you perceive it (not about how on time the pyrotechnics are) – that’s the day the music will live again.
Playing Other People’s Records (even if you recorded them) For Fun. Damn The Profit.
