    Got it.

No really, I bought the MK2 (“NIB with full warranty, case and Serato – $540 on eBay).

Thanks again to Terry_42 and DJ Vintage (like that name) for sharing knowledge and experience.

I’ll report back when the gear arrives.

    Got it.

Can’t afford it – just yet.

But for edification, other than the superior sound card,
what are the significant advantages of the MK2?

    True, but $400 vs $700…

Thank you both for all the useful info and advice.

I’ll definitely re-focus my “quest” and, as suggested, defer any quick move to a lesser piece of digitized gear.

In the meantime I would like to find a less bulky (than my present/ancient CDM/CDJ) analogue mixer – that i could plug my laptop into, along w my other gear.

Suggestions welcome in that regard as well 🙂

Would something like this “Numark STEREO iO Analog-To-Digital DJ Interface” (as found on Amazon) expand my options for a controller?

Thanks Terry for the feedback and that very vivid analogy 🙂

I am passionate about music but not very technical minded.

What I’ve been reading about the controllers interests me – I’ve actually had a copy go VDJPro7 on my computer for years – but I’m beginning to wonder whether what would suit me best is a more compact analogue mixer (maybe the good ones are costing less these days?) which would allow me to hook up my TTs, CD decks, etc as well as plugging in my laptop (and running DJay or other software (from the laptop only)…

On the controller tip, I don’t suppose you think much more of the Herc 4-MX. What about the VMS4.1 or, if I find a good used one, Denon MC6000?

Big impediment is that I can’t spend much more than $200-$300 right now…
