I like the mc6000 as well. High quality mixer and product.
The problem with most modular setups is that they depend on the USB connection to work.
I personally have an X1 and Z1 that I use as my “backup” setup. There is no mic in for it, so I also travel with a small behringer mixer to handle my mics if my s4 decides to quit on me.
It really depends on how much redundancy you have and are looking for. I do mobile gigs with multiple laptops, so if one crashes, I can still use a different one. I also make sure I have 2 controllers as well as an iPhone that can play what I need if everything else fails.
With that being said, I like the modular setup. It allows me to have the bare minumum if needed, and it allows me to add what I need to it as I go.

They are pretty small and fit very tight on my head (of course I have a pretty big head), almost to the point of being uncomfortable. Definitely give them a try if you have a chance.
Scribbl3ParticipantI have no problem with various hard drives and flash drives going between systems. You just have to format the drives correctly. Both mac and pc can read and write to FAT32. Mac can’t read NTFS and PC can’t read “journaled” drives from a mac. In my experience, most drives come correctly formatted.
Scribbl3ParticipantThe best way to use traktor is with a traktor controller.
Get on eBay and find an s4 (or s2). I got mine (a mk2) for less than 500. Another option is getting a z1 and X1. Small, portable, modular, and I got the combination for less than 300.
Scribbl3ParticipantA used VCI-400 on eBay maybe? I know we’re not talking about traktor, but I picked up a used s4 on eBay for less than 500. You can also get a MC6000MK1 on eBay for less than that.
Scribbl3Participant+1 on D-Jams articles.
What about putting together a press kit? Mixtape, promo material, business card. Distribute these with club promoters.
Another idea is rent a room and throw a party. Invite your friends, get some flyers made up, and throw stuff up on Facebook/twitter. This takes a lot of work and promoting, but it will help you build a good local following if you do it right.
One thing I know when new acts come to me and ask to play, the first question I ask is “what kind of local following do you have?” Just sounding good isn’t good enough. If you can bring in 100+ people just because they booked you, that’s great leverage to have. I’d hire you if you came to me with that.
Scribbl3ParticipantDDJ-SR. I use one pretty regularly, and it’s a solid piece of gear. 2 channels, performance pads, and a lot of the other new “toys” you get with new tech nowadays.
Scribbl3Participant1. I have a 256 gb drive. It doesn’t hold all of my music. For that I use a 2 tb portable hard drive. Id I were to buy a new mac tomorrow, I’d go with the bigger drive.
2. Depends on how you organize your music. I organize all of my music into folders and then load those folders into whichever program I’m using. I download music on my mac and DJ from my mac at home and as a mobile DJ, and also DJ from a pc where I work, plus have another PC set up should things crash. This way allows me to go from mac to pc back to mac if i have to.
Scribbl3ParticipantAnother vote for the MC6000. I have both the SX and the first generation of the MC6000. The SX is huge, and a good controller, but I love the size and functionality of the MC6000.
