Good rule of thumb seems to be -10 dB for all channels and then up until it’s all level.

Not bad for a first good try, my feedback:
    – intro! the first 16-32 bars are for your intro, general rule of thumb is to start with percussion, then add kick (or the bass component), add bass and then continue building with melody/etc; the same goes for the outtro btw
    – watch your levels! there were no clipped peaks, but the kick and bass were really low on volume, or the rest was too hard
    – the breakdown is usually expected to be more in the middle, or rather, have more main section after it – why have an epic build-up if the song is already nearly over? so either add more main section afterwards, to which you can add a new or different melody line as well, or keep it short like this, but move your breakdown more to the front.
    – no tonal clashes, although the arp(?)/repeat of your main synth comes across as a bit generic to me.
    – nice use of wooshers! πŸ™‚
    – look for some nice free VSTs to lose that generic feel! πŸ˜‰
    – also, with that clap build-up, use an increasing velocity from zero – to make it come up out of the deep and add a little reverb to it
    – and layer for a fuller and more interesting sound!

    Hope this helps! (For anyone)

It all depends on how you look at it!
See, with me, I see the difference between what I like and what I mix!
I normally wouldn’t really be listening to House or Techno, but I love to mix it!
I did some DnB mixing the other day, but I normally just listen to it.
On the other hand… I tend to just put all my (listening) music in one playlist and let it shuffle, much to hilarious results!

    People change, tastes change…
Invest in what you sticks best and see the distinction between the 2 types of music!

    Just my 2 cents!

After my ex broke up with me, the whole podcast thing didn’t really fly just yet…

However, in return to a fellow DJ, who normally plays UK Hardcore, accepting the “Techhouse challenge” (she wanted to try a different genre), I picked up some UK Hardcore and over Christmas, with my new gf – now fiancΓ©e even – being the reason… I managed to push out not 1, but 2 mixes!

If you’re interested in what UK Hardcore is, these are 2 prime examples of the cheesiest of cheese :p

This might sound weird, but go to your local media&entertainment shop/outlet and check for gaming headsets!

To prevent “tumbleweeding”… (making it seem no-one reads this or responds)

    What D-Jam said!

If you ever get into production, it might also be an issue; but you could also look into registering it as a trademark; downside is that the law expects you to protect it and actively pursue violators.

It might also be a nice way to start off again…
For example; Tech-/Electro House DJ/Producer Wolfgang Gartner used a name change to switch genres and in the process establish a new name for himself.

It’s not all bad, it might even be a chance to re-invent yourself?

I settled for the HDJ2Ks in the end, as my ears get itchy from on-ear headphones.

Idk, the HDJ1Ks break fairly often, hence buying the 2Ks, as their design is much more sturdy.

It’s down to personal preference and music style in the end, because different music sounds differently on different headphones.

Seriously, I love the name; although I can imagine that it depends on the crowd/scene as well.
A bit out of place for the “serious” genres like trance and the prog/house/techno “family” perhaps, but imho would defo work for anything “fun” like dubstep, fidget, uk hardcore or the likes! I think it’s got a good tongue-in-cheek vibe to it πŸ™‚

    Just my 2 cents πŸ™‚

Deathray, post: 10168 wrote: Yes. I did it for years and I think it’s made me a quicker and more nimble DJ now that I have several controllers. Sometimes working in a restrictive environment makes you work a lot harder to get the results you want to achieve.

That! And it really makes you think about planning and timing!
Can you manage to kill that bass, control the effects and drop a new track all at the same time?

Great learning experience, but so happy with my controllers now πŸ™‚

    OT:
    Requirement? No.

As D-Jam mentioned…it’s down to personal preference.

I personally prefer to grid my tracks to perfection, use the X1s (using shift-browse to go through the tracks), sync them all up and go for some of that 4-deck love!

Before we get into that whole discussion again; remember kids, it’s a tool! Use it wisely πŸ˜‰

And agreeing with Hessler on this one; if you don’t use it, put it to creative use for efx control! Good fun! πŸ˜€

Wicked! Really enjoyed that, kind of reminded me of one of the Tony Touch mixtapes i got laying about here somewhere (on digital)…

Didn’t pay much attention to the vid, because I was doing some stuff around the room, but defo got me grooving!
(Yeah, yeah, white men can’t jump and shit :p πŸ˜‰ )
