It is hard to get a casual job while studying from where I am from though. Since most office hours are school hours.

I am truly interested on how to get some extra bucks to help out people who want to DJ but can’t totally afford to buy gear.

Yeah. My dad bought me the MBP. others I bought from saving for close to year. And for this reason I do not want to ask my dad for stuff. He has done a lot for me as is. He is actually paying for my education, food, gas money and inspite that bought a MBP. DJ gear/software/music is more of a hobby or in general terms a “Want” not a need. So, looking for ways on how to buy gear/software/music is out of my own ways.. But, sometimes people hit a brick wall, and go broke. So this is why I am asking.

Yeah coz initially I started out with zero gear and all. I started with a very old beat up laptop which died after 4 months of use. With no laptop and no gear, I had to save up and make sacrifices. But, then I wanted to ask other DJs here of how to get cash for gear and all, specially for students. Because, we all need to start somewhere. Most students depend on allowances and such. We all know DJ gear/software are heck expensive.

    Any tips and advise ?

Channel 3/4 is master… channel 1/2 is headphones well thats my setting

wait what? The mixtrack pro does have a headphone output jack which is 1/4″… and a main output i think RCA or something.. What you need is a Y RCA male to 3.5mm Stereo female jack which u can plug your speakers. And plug in your headphones into the mixtrack pro output which is situated infront of the controller.

Then set it up on your software which comes out to which.. depending on which software you use though.. There will be a soundcard or output routing option on there..

in reply to: Virtal Dj vs Traktor pro #12094

Picking between the two is much based on your own preference. some like VDJ some like Traktor.

Traktor LE 2 is pretty good for starters.. nothing fancy and all. But, if you want a really good software traktor pro is always the best with all the effects and etc. But if budget does not allow it.. Duo still is a good viable option..

CDJ are expensive in my opinion. A good for the buck is a controller. so, you could get one… as stated above a mixtrack/ mixtrack pro is the cheapest way to go.. laptop wise any laptop will do as long as you dont abuse it load what you need ONY – DJ software!

in reply to: Harmonix mixing… a bit too cheap? #11864

Sometimes its a good idea sometimes, it aint.. Seems harmonic mixing you are actually not thinking too much out of the box… in other words playing it safe… It sometimes a good idea sometimes it aint…

Honestly, I am still a student, so all the gear I have I buy from my own savings.. I got the Numark Redwaves, feature wise awesome! Its all metal but covered with plastic as well… Prolly will be sticking to these headphones until I get some Technics headphones.. but these are just headphones… unless my redwaves dies all of a sudden on me

in reply to: Which is the BEST CONTROLLER OF ALL? #1002455

in my opinion, the best for me is what i have. There aint no best controller i think. But, I think I want a VCI-400 (i hope they fix the kinks)…….

in reply to: Your laptop and what you think of it #11854

Im using a Macbook pro Early 2011.. I am wondering though i still have 280gb worth of free space on my laptop…Since most of my tunes are on my external hdd which is 320gb as well and has around 100gb left of free space. I am debating on if I should get a new HDD 500gb 7200rpm or just even a 320gb 7200rpm and making my old hdd on my mbp as a back up as well having 2 externals wont hurt i think. as well as making the 320gb 5400 MBP a back up clone for my MBP as well..

Should I wait a bit or should i just pull the trigger? even though budget is tight these days? coz I plan on getting some studio monitors and some other gear.

A laptop, a controller (you dont need a super expensive one, infact a used one will still do), audio interface (cheap on), headphones
