I think you’re on the right track there. the lowest possible setting I can select in Traktor is 20ms. in Serato it is 2ms.

I tried using the mixtrack with serato DJ – the buzzing noise is gone! I go back to traktor – the buzzing noise is back. so it’s a software problem with the mixtrack, and faulty hardware with the NS7II.
January 18, 2015 at 6:43 pm in reply to: humming/hissing noise from NS7II controller. bad PSU? "dirty power" issue? #2123901Mark LaveryParticipantnope. no lightning strikes or power cuts. they were both noisy from day 1. I tested them at a friend’s house and the the noise is audible there as well.
there is one difference between the NS7II noise and the mixtrack noise – the mixtrack gets louder as the volume is increased. with the NS7II there is no change. the mixtrack is powered directly via USB, so I attributed the mixtrack noise to interference from my computer’s PSU.
It is so bizarre. my Hi-Fi system and guitar amp are powered from the same source and they do not get noisy at all.

January 13, 2015 at 9:17 am in reply to: humming/hissing noise from NS7II controller. bad PSU? "dirty power" issue? #2120451Mark LaveryParticipantwould you suggest I try a surge protector or a power conditioner and see if that makes a difference?
January 13, 2015 at 8:33 am in reply to: humming/hissing noise from NS7II controller. bad PSU? "dirty power" issue? #2120401Mark LaveryParticipantthe NS7II is B-stock and missing the factory adapter. the retailer supplied me with a different adapter, which is leading me to suspect this might be the problem. I’ll try and find out exactly what kind of adapter Numark supplies with the controller. the mixtrack pro is powered by USB, so it’s hard to draw conclusions from that.
January 12, 2015 at 11:00 pm in reply to: humming/hissing noise from NS7II controller. bad PSU? "dirty power" issue? #2120281Mark LaveryParticipantIt says on the back of the board I should be getting 100-240V. my AC adapter out is 250V. maybe there’s too much power running through?
January 12, 2015 at 10:10 pm in reply to: humming/hissing noise from NS7II controller. bad PSU? "dirty power" issue? #2120261Mark LaveryParticipantno other power source nearby. just a bunch of power strips connecting my PC gear. I tested the NS7II on different mains sockets around the house. tested it with a different power cable. no change.
taking it to another location is a good suggestion. I’ll see about getting it a friend’s place. if nothing else, it’ll give me a good work-out. this thing is heavy 🙂
thanks for the reply DJ Vintage!
November 23, 2014 at 11:01 pm in reply to: bare cable/banana plug speakers to numark controller #2096591Mark LaveryParticipantthanks for your reply man.
I’m only using the speakers for practice. there is a humming noise when I have my sound device set to the numark controller. It’s not noticeable when the device volume is set to 100% in Windows. but I like to limit this to 20%, so the audible volume is easier to control. that’s why I wanted to test out the hi-fi speakers. I’m guessing the humming is the result of a cheap controller, the speakers, or both. will look out for a solid pair of monitor speakers!
