The turntables are connected to a (powered) mixer. The signal is coming from the mixer to the DDJ-SR. the signal input is a-ok, its when an input is engaged in software/recording is attempted that everything goes to Hell.

    Problem solved.

The issue was the Twitch. I’m using the newest drivers for it but those are dated 2014 and I suspect are not nearly going to cut it. So, I swapped my Twitch out for my Vestax VCI-300 mkII and had Ableton Live record the audio input from my mixer while running SSL elsewhere, no problem. So yeah, it’s a little fiddly I guess but it does solve the issue.

Dammit. I’m completely confused. Let me explain my setup and what I’m trying to accomplish and perhaps someone can steer me a bit. I don’t want to upgrade unless I have to, but if I have to then I guess I have to.

I have a Rane SL-1 that is connected up with 2 turntables and a Numark M2 mixer. Very simple, bare bones setup. The master out of the M2 goes to input of a Novation Twitch that is set to Thru just because a) I use it as my main soundcard and b) I have a couple controllers and I like to bounce between DJ methods from time to time for the sake of staying inspired. Now, the SL-1 is being bus powered by my computer (MBP) as i don’t have a standalone power supply for it (it’s arriving today). I have both SSL and SDJ. What I want to be able to do is record sets, no matter the method I’m using. So, recording all vinyl sets, recording DVS sets, and (if possible) recording sets where I’m going back and forth sometimes between vinyl and DVS.

    The difficulties:

    SSl doesn’t record at all.

SDJ doesn’t work with the SL-1.

With this setup, trying to record the input of the Twitch in, say, Logic, results in an audio recording that stutters so much as to be unlistenable.

    What are some solutions?

Well, you’d think that, but the older and lower end Serato units don’t do it, so I’m trying to see if the A6 does.
