I figure as long as I’m not giving it out to everyone, I should be able to do whatever I want with what I legally paid for.

And here is the problem, which I see in today’s world.
Publishers and governments do not see the customer in possession of what he paid for, but merely “leasing” it.
Meaning, you buy the movie, but you don’t own a copy of the movie but the license to view it.
With this understanding comes the (in those institutions way of thought) that altering it, remixing, shortening or peeing on the booklet changes the product itself and is to be pursued by law.

What really pisses me off is the fact that everybody on the planet is (thanks to ACTA and others) under general suspicion and state/police institutions are allowed to sniff my computer and everybody else’s just to have a look whether you are doing bad things or not.
I mean WTF? If I sneak into your bedroom and watch you 6ang your wife, just to make sure you are treating her according to the law, I clearly am a criminal. But THEY are allowed to? Sorry, this is a major break of privacy, and it happens now, and all we can do is sit there helplessly and wait what comes next.

Guys, why all that hatin’ stuff?
Most of his work may not coincide with your taste but so what?
You could start an endless debate about Swedish House Mafia or even Daft Punk (Don’t you dare! 😉 ) as well, but admittedly, all of them brought, maybe only in a separating manner, the genre forward.

Though, I have to agree, there seem to be better DJs (skill-wise) than Monsieur Guetta.
I heard the same discussion about “too mainstream, too commercial, too lame a dj” about the Disco Boys a few years ago,
but experiencing them first hand, they really busted the floor and set the club on fire – so they can’t be all that bad, and I think as long as David Guetta accomplishes the same, well, he’s gotta do something right!

Contrary example, I don’t generally like what famous Laidback Luke produces or remixes – but his essential mix blew me off my chair.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like most of what D.G. produces, being, agreed, too much of the same lane driven again & again. But, for example, I like this

And it is not “typical” D.G., but closer to Daft Punk. Which is okay. And he don’t deserve hate for that. So I think we shouldn’t put any artist (and, of course, everybody we meet) into a certain category overhasty, because he may have aspects that might prove that category wrong.

Just my thoughts.

Hm, I have to agree with the Hess 😉

You cannot turn&twist the earcups, and as DJ Hessler mentioned, this dual cable solution will surely hinder you in doing whatever you have to behind your gear, you’ll be fiddling around with them all the time.

Additionally, the unit’s pricing opens up for alternatives from Panasonic, Reloop, Pioneer, Sony, Audio Technica and a lot others.

Summary: For Audio/HiFi enjoyment they might be okay, but for DJing rather not.
One would not DJ with a Bose headphone either, would you? 😉
(Though I have seen that too and almost busted my ass laughing… geez 😀 )

Yay, my Numark Total Control!
Spent the first day with connecting and trying to run it in Traktor Dj Studio. BUt wouldn’t work until I downloaded a TSK file.
Which I had to figure out first, being a complete newbie. And then I spent ages messing around with the mapping…
Geez, happy this is over 😀

I’d say 2/10. It was cool, it was awesome, I was happy. But getting it done properly was a real p.i.t.a. 😉

Sorry to hijack this thread 😉
But I am currently considering those (english language here ) as monitor speakers for the bedroom. I know I’ll need a receiver/amplifier, but I think they will suffice, and surely the sound should be better than the average monitor (at least in that pricing range, which is about 330$/210£).

Anyone having experience using HiFi-Speakers as monitors?

Thx!

If you were to abuse both controllers the same way (eg not put them in padded bags to protect them when transported and just throw them around instead of placing them down), then the Denon gear would undoubtedly outlast the S4. The thing to remember is that if you look after your gear it will be fine.
As a new DJ, I doubt you would be bothered that the S4 does not have booth out and is larger and cannot run without a PC. As I see it the S4 is excellent for most applications you would encounter, however if you need more flexibility then the the choice would be the Denon.

Yeah, but I just like the feel of the metal and the build quality, you know, gives me a nice feeling everytimee I switch it on.
The features comparison, I also agree, can be looked up all over the internet, especially those two (and together with the Vestax VCI-400) will have been compared all over the web.

He should download the Phil’s controller guide … btw, Phil, if you read this, why not post a download link somewhere here in the forum for all the newies who have not come to get the facebook action? 😉

1 Rip in Toast to AIFF
2 Run them in Platinum Notes (that converts them to MP3 320kbps CBR)
3 Run them in MIK
4 Tag them in Jaikoz
And the result is very good IMO

Jeez, I’d go nuts having to use 4 (!) programmes till done.
I rip ’em with Easy CDDA Extractor, a bit dusted but never had any complaints about it.
And do the tagging stuff in MediaMonkey, though I am currently on the lookout for a better option (no, iTunes is definitely a no-go. And the No is so fat, you could park the whole 7th fleet in it 😀 )

I have become a complete Denon fanboy, since I bought my Denon setup around christmas.
Build quality is better IMHO because it is fashioned of metal and feels really heavy duty.
But, agreeingly, the spaces between knobs and buttons sometimes seem a bit tight-
try them is the best I can suggest. You already have narrowed your choice down on those two so when you feel you’re in a good mood go and hit it!
(or, when you’re from germany or europe, order them at thomann.de or other onlineshops you know take back returns easy, and try them two weeks at home!)

If you have questions about the Denon, feel free to ask; though, I gotta admit, DJ Hessler is a real Denon expert 6itch 😉 who knows what he’s talking about 😀

I have seen this happen not too long ago on a great after exams party of my gf. About 700 people, a gym, large speakers, light and strobes and all the fancy stuff you could really beat the $hit out of the crowd with – but the dj was the typical poser 6itch. Wearing a muscle shirt, doing nice gestures to the ladies, and all he did was letting a playlist in winamp run through, disappear from the stage, typing messages on his phone…
I was going nuts that I had not taken my gear with me…
I HATE THOSE FOLKS! 😉
