BTW soundcloud link on the Youtube page 🙂
RattfinkMemberNice track btw I love the drum loop great groove I mean the vocal needs to synch up nicer but I like where you’re going with it!
RattfinkMemberI love requests! I mean if you handle them correctly they’re a good way of feeling out a crowd/getting track ideas/flirting with drunk girls who came up wanting to hear Rihanna but are now more interested in all the shiny lights and buttons in the booth 😉

RattfinkMemberI agree with Todd Oddity!
I literally have a folder on my Serato set called “songs people like” and if things are starting to wane I just grab a couple from that and BAM! problem solved.Usually I’ll do 2-me 1-them and try to read what they’re into-could be top 40, jackin house, balaeric beats, who knows. You just have to find that lovely medium between being you and feeding them 😀
Good luck and congrats BTW!!!
RattfinkMemberCool story Hansel hahaha!
On a serious note how mad is it when a fight breaks out? That happened to me a couple weeks ago and all of the sudden drinks were flying and my and my buddy (we play together) were ducking behind the booth hahaha!RattfinkMemberHey man!
If you can .wav is even better but 320kps is just fine in my opinion. I use it when I play out and it’s all good. If you’re worried about song quality try to use a club system for soundcheck before and have a listen yourself. but anything under 320kps is not gonna cut it.RattfinkMemberdurtyjerzy609, post: 16770, member: 1487 wrote: a proper crab scratch can do sum serious damage to a well swollen clitoris 😉
They know you can get a good grip on that crossfader hahahaha!
RattfinkMemberHit up the house parties!
Hessler and Fluxdeep are spot on. The best way to sharpen your skills as a DJ is to go out and DJ for crowds. When I was starting out I pestered anybody I knew that may have need for a dj. I did as many house parties as I possibly could and learned a lot while doing them! One of the first things I learned (Fluxdeep touched on this as well) was that the little mistakes and slip ups that absolutely devastate you in fact don’t have a huge effect on the crowd. They wanna dance, party, drink, and generally have a good time. Also, playing out for crowds at house parties teaches you how to deal with requests, play to audiences, and tailor your selections to take the party to the next level. These are invaluable lessons that cannot be learned on the internet.
So my advice is: pack up your gear, find a buddy that’s got a good house/basement/garage/backyard, and get him to throw a party with you playing. You’ll be nervous as shit, but you’ll have a blast and learn a lot about being a DJ in the process.
RattfinkMemberD-Jam that was a perfect, honest and concise answer to my question! Well said indeed. Be the guy women want, be everywhere, play for the crowd and hit them up after. Utterly brilliant and much appreciated. I guess my main problem is I can’t get anywhere while I’m playing because I’m too busy trying to put the set together so I think that it comes off as snobby and a bit rude. It’s up to the afterparty I guess
And Longmover, go troll somewhere else man.
RattfinkMemberYAY! I’ve been trying to make more remixes/mash-ups and acapella websites are awesome! Now if somebody would hook me up with “I just can’t wait to be king” I’d be golden hahahaha!
RattfinkMemberEan Golden made a video for DJTT showing a bunch of mixing techniques a few years back. mix techniques 3 and 4 show him cutting out the bass on the eqs to “fit” the tracks together and he rides faders to make sure that there’s no bump in the master volume when mixing the tracks together. It’s pretty basic but is a good example of how to use the eq’s to mix tracks together. at the end of the day you’re making room for bits of tracks that you want by taking bits of tracks that you don’t want out.

RattfinkMemberThat’s a cool idea never heard of that! Usually I just put out a stack of scrap paper for people to scribble “Skrillex” or “Pitbull” or “play something good” on hahahahhaa!

Make sure to include a couple of your favorite songs and once you’re feeling relaxed, play what feels right. Also, remember that this will be FUN and that any mistakes you make (or think you make) will help you become more proficient next time around!
I like to have a few “mini mixes” that I can go to. They’re about 10-15 minutes in length no more than that and I know them like the back of my hand. By mini mix I don’t mean pre recorded just a few tracks that work really well together that you can pull out and play blindfolded. Do them in a few different styles/genres so that you can pull them out depending on what the crowd’s feeling. If you have these mini nuggets up your sleeve you’ll be a lot more confident!
RattfinkMemberit happened again! I think the main problem is I’m trying not to drink when I play my sets because I find that I’m much more able to watch the crowd and adapt to their liking that way, but without the booze to chill me out after gigs I’m stuck awake all full of adrenaline watching re-runs of Top Gear (great show btw). I’m stoked that I get so stoked from playing because that feeling is the reason we all do this but I need an off switch for when it’s bed time!
I’m on again this week and I’m going to pull out all the stops post-gig: Camomile tea, Melatonin, chilled piano, bath, maybe even an adoring female fan if I’m lucky 😀 Wish me luck and I’ll let you know how it goes!
