A mate bought the DM-40 from pioneer and they are prety good for small room/practice speaker to get going and are active so no need for an amp. £120 ish i think. Being pioneer if you then did want to upgrade they would hold decent value to sell on. Keep the box and would sell well on ebay

I have krk 6’s which i love but that’s a step up budget wise

think phil did a video on the pioneers too.

Don’t know what your situation is, but a set of passive speakers can be got second hand pretty cheaply so if budget constraints on your monitors is an issue at the moment you can then do that as a stop gap. You can then get the best active monitor setup you want instead of the “make do set” sell said amp and speakers when your ready to drop on the mons. passive amp and speakers are fine for a home set up

The general concensus for traktor is to use NI equipment. Especially if you want to use the jogs
Nothing intergrates as well as their own gear. Have you thought about an s2/s4?

Windows 10 upgrade lasts for a year, if it is as they say, generally working for most peeps, it will be supported officially by serato well before then. I’m very much if it ain’t broke don’t fix it camp.
Upgrade before then at your peril ; )

I agree with what terry says it about the software decison.
I have not used a traktor s4 but own an sx so biased in that sense.
Suffice to say i dont find I’m wanting anything more with the sx. Its works great, its solid and it feels about the right size and feels right if that makes any sense. I dont think you would be dissapointed with an sx, there’s a reason they sold a lot of them. That said there is a signifcant price difference between the 2 so that needs to be a consideration too.

I understand your concerns as this night has potentially lots of ups and downs.
Make sure lots of preparation as you don’t want the organisers to hit the roof if it does not go well.
I think your son will do a great job and should jump right in.
oh and get paid cash you don’t want the cheque to bounce.

Sorry I’ll get my coat ……., I would go down on a different night and see what goes on music wise.
All the best for the gig.

Nothing to be daunted about. I did the same , sold it all as my new daughter meant the man cave could be no more.
Bought a ddj sx and some krk 6’s with the proceeds and put them in our bedroom, could not be happier loads more stuff I can do and tunes are 99p the stuff dreams are made of lol.

Fair enough if you got the software already then your making sense. I got decent money for my gear when i sold it so I spunked it all on new DDJ SX. Probably overkill, but happy as larry with it though and learning new stuff i can do all the time and had it over a year. I don’t really miss the vinyl at all.

I did the same as you had to sell my 1210’s, vinyl etc as my baby daughter had called dibs on the deck room! Bless her lol

Im just throwing a spanner in the works. You are coming from a mixtrack Pro do you think all the controllers listed, although new, are in the same bracket? All have intro versions of software.

If save up a bit more you could get second hand DDJ SR for £320 (gumtree) this opens up full serato and has easy recording
maybe a second hand tracktor krontol s2 is around 200 and an s4 is about 320.

    just an idea?

if it does happen it would not be ‘re -inventing any wheels. serato has so much hardware licencsed to its software. These all still have to work you cant have loads of new stuff that can’t be operated by these controllers etc. Punters would be up in arms me included.
How much more can you do with dj software too?

if this is a tag competition which is what it sounds like its highly unlikely that either of you will win said gig unless you got a million friends on faceache or titter. It sounds like he is a “mate” so tag him, let him know that you want a chance of the gig so he tags you.
Either that or you don’t bother and your friendship ends forever, the hate, the lies… you cant handle it, loose your job turning to the drink you loose your house, your car, the wife up and leaves and you have to sell your technics for food. I don’t think you have thought through the consequences of not tagging him, This could potentially escalate. Or then again it might not!

I have a pair of North face e tip gloves

thin but warm like a neoprene almost and designed to work on phones so should work on the platters. They have grip on the fingers so should not be a problem djing in although i have not tried. Maybe worth a look though

    Cheers

    I’ve learnt something today….tropical house???…

In answer to your question if you are just having mix, or you are recording it with no crowd go for it, do what you like.

if your playing with people in front of you they tend to dictate what you play.

I have a ddj sx and use serato so that’s all I can talk about really for me it utilises all serato has to offer. So does the sz and apart from it being bigger, having the two laptop thing and a slightly better mixer I cant see where the extra 900 quid is going . So as a choice it would be ddj sx for me in that fight. The ddj sx 2 has the flip controls too which are supposed to be fun.
However you say have an s4 that’s pretty pro already so I say save your money and go on a bender for 5 days…wallop!
