If your controler is an S4 you will find a lot of videos on Youtube, try searching your controller name and add the words ”tutorials” or ”practice routines”.

    I use Traktor too and one thing I’ve read in some blogs and forums was ”don’t trust Traktor Auto-Gain”, so I never use it.

    But what I could say to you it’s that if in your headphones the tracks sound the same, than it’s because probably everything it’s working fine, trust your ears first.

    There are a couple of software out there that can help you normalize the gain of you’re tracks (by normalizing I mean setting the tracks at the same volume), some of them have already been mentioned in the blog, MP3 Gain it’s one of them, but I’ve haven’t tried yet.

    Sorry for not replying earlier, I’ve just read this thread today, but I hope this will help in the future…

    A friend of mine owns a Pioneer 850 set, two CDJ’s and the DJM and I own a S4. Sometimes we trow parties at some of our friends place and we usually use his gear. At the beginning I also weren’t very comfortable with CDJ’s, my solution was to connect a USB cable to one CDJ and another cable to the DJM, using the CDJ as a MIDI controller for the Traktor decks (there is a mapping with a manual guide at the Pioneer website, and if you have experience in mapping you could create your own) and running the Traktor channels through the DJM soundcard.

    But of course, this will only serve you if you’re allowed to use a laptop.

    64 coloured buttons, the cost is around 100 euros, and it comes bundled with Ableton Live Lite, a good alone reason to get one of these. Explore trough the Novation page and decide if this fit your needs.

    I think you’re problem it’s with Traktor Layouts. At the upper right corner of Traktor you will find the ”Layout Selector” and some shortcut buttons (Maximize Browser Button, Preferences Button, Cruise Mode, Fullscreen Button), you must have the ”Extended” or ”Essential” Layout selected, which will only show a very small portion of the ”Browser List”, you could change it to ”Browser Layout” or you could map a button in your controller to be used as a ”Maximize Browser Button” (it may probably have one already, go to ”Controller Manager” in the ”Preferences Menu” and look for it), when you want to browse threw your list press the button to extend the ”Browser List”, after you load the songs to the decks press the button again to go back to whatever layout you’re using.

For $1500 I’ve bought a Clevo W650R:

Intel QuadCore I7 4700MQ, 2,4Ghz / 3,4Ghz;

16GB DDR3;

1 mSATA SSD 256GB for running Windows and Traktor;

1 HDD 1TB for storing music;

Smart Lithium-Ion 6 cell battery that can last for 5h while using the laptop at full performance;

15,6” LCD Matte screen, 1920×1080 HD.

Avoid common windows based laptop brands (sony, toshiba, hp, dell, acer, asus…), Clevo, AKG and Rain have better suited laptops to work with music software, all the components are top notch.

And if you’re looking for something different and portable, check the Razer Edge Pro!

    The only think I would add it’s to get demo versions of the different softwares and some simple mappings, so you could explore for yourself and decide which software suits your style better. The Mixtrack it’s extremely versatile in this camp, no matter what software you’ll use, it will do it’s job well, a solid controller which will help you learn the basics in a very simple and intuitive way.

    The best software you could use is VirtualDj, because they have HID integration with the CDJ-700, you would only need a mapping for them and you could get a dual deck mapping for each deck, which would enable you to control 4 decks, and if I’m not mistaken the DDM4000 also has an internal soundcard for you to route the 4 decks to each channel and control the mixer in external mode.

    You could use the same setup with Traktor, but you will not have HID integration, so expect some issues when using the jogwheel.

    I’ve rather hear a DjMix wich had a playlist, but that’s my opinion, I’ve remember downloading live sets from top dj’s and finding myself in love with a particular track and not knowing her name…

    Other thing I would suggest would be leaving all your personnal information, you never know if someone from the forum it´s preparing a gig near your area, and by listening to your mix may think you’re style would be a good fit to it and may want to book you.

    ULTRASONE PRO 900
    good-> sound quality out of this world.
    bad -> the only bad thing for most people is the price, but for me was very well spent money.

    Thank u guys for the advise, i think it´s going to be denon or numark, wich is a brand i really like but lot of my friends who have more djing experienced than me don’t give a lot of credit, i would love to purchase the vci-400 but it’s only available with serato intro, and i have no funds to purchase extra software for now, maybe next year…
