I personally really love the needle search – its just so easy to scan trough songs but is also in a place where you dont touch it by mistake. The rotating lights are not that important though, maybe for guys that scratch a lot. If I do I find it more precise on screen after I set two hotcues as markers. But I still really like them for the feedback they give – you directly see that the deck is playing which in some situations can be handy.

As for the price difference you may want to look into used SXs (1st gen). – I got a used one 1,5 months ago and it works like a charm. No damage at all, this thing was nearly in new condition – at a price of 650€! So if you have fallen in love with the idea of the SX and may want to drop rgb pads and dedicated buttons for flip for the sake of getting a SX, that could be one solution. Just make sure to check it out before buying if you can and you can check its state by yourself. But atleast either of those controllers should just be fine.

You dont sound like you are willing to wait, so maybe it would be worth it if you ditch one of the features you want. You dont need drumpads for using the roll feature nor a dedicated filterknob as you can also set one effect(bank) as filter if you like.
Also, do you extremely need individual metering for each channel? – If not, you may want to look into the Denon MC6000MK2 (again), the Reloop TerminalMix8 or the Numark NS6. If you could live with a bigger controller but do want the other features, you already mentioned the DDJ-SR and you may even get a used DDJ-SX as many of the former users are switching to the SX2.

I have not heard of any controllers coming out next year and there is for sure no safe way to say that there will be a “perfect controller for you.
But all in all I can really just quote the words that have been said so often in the past:
Its the DJ that makes the partynd not the gear.

I already had concerns about them being too big. And this all sounds not that good either. I understand why they didnt take off like they could have when soundquality is not on the level the price is at.
I think I wont buy them now, except I’m running in some crazy sale on these (like half the price). Or maybe phil would need someone to review them … 😀
Big thanks to both of you helping me out!

Oh, forgot to mention that … I don´t plan on using these primarily for DJing. Maybe these will go with me as backup, but I also prefer the security and flexibility of the more conservative headphones (using the Crossfade LPs most of the time). I just wanted something portable for trips, so the idea of compact in-ears came to my mind. I just wanted to get something good and Pioneer is known to last. For example the plug looks to be pretty sturdy – this is what I mostly break on Headphones I travel with. Overall they look pretty solid, but I´ve never seen them anywhere other than on pictures.
What exactly was it that you disliked in relation to the price?

Make sure to try them out before buying. If you tend to leave the headphones on for longer durations, on the ear headphones may clamp to hard on your head. Also Audiotechnica M50x seem to be not that bad either. I can always recommend the Crossfade by V-Moda, but their semiopen design actually doesn´t isolate the best – but I´ve never tried a headphone that was more comfy than these. (which highly depends on my opinion – and I´m not even near to say that I tried out a big amount)

Vintage, if you´re jealous on the aluminium ones check out the Sennheiser Amperior. Basically the same (eventough more expensive for actually no reason), but they come in blue. Looking at these makes me weak … we´ll see, how christmas goes this year. 😀

I dont use DVS or Traktor nor have ever used them … But maybe Fluxmode is engaged? – When I first encountered the slipmode on my new controller, I found it very cool and a good creative tool … Until weird things happened. Actually these things were right in the effect of slipmode, but I found it really weird that for example a track continues playing underneath even if you pressed pause a while ago. I now rarely use it for things like spinbacks.

To the topic of DVS … As far as my knowledge goes, there are digital algorithms today that really ignore jumping and skipping. I’ve once also dreamed of an DVS-Turntable setup, but in my eyes the costs dont match the use you get out of it.

I also had a small demo now on the SX – and the hot rolls on the pads got me like instantly! Maybe its really a little bit impractical big being a controller – but I really think I made a decision now. The prices for used SX’s have also dropped a bit further now
So again thanks alot for helping me out! Great & quick responses, another thing that just lets me show this site (and of coursd the forum) to other DJs!

I can backup the Crossfade LPs – I got the LP1 (LP2 just means 2 years warranty, the headphone is the exact same) myself. They are very comfy and lightweight in my opinion while still being solid. The case is also very solid, preventing the headphones from scratches and bumps.
The only problem may be the semi-open can design as it lets loud noises from outside trough pretty easily.

Many guys also youse the Sennheiser HD-25 which should basically be indestructible. Also there has to be a reason why they are around for so many years already … 😀

Softwarewise I went to a friend last on sunday – and my leaning towards Serato seem just about right. Im still favoring the SX, but also the MC6000 is still in mind. I hope to make the final decision until wednesday.

A BIG ‘thank you!’ to all that posted here 🙂

I now actually found a thread in the Serato forum stating that there is no need to acticate or disable an license, so to say that the controller is really the license. – Somehow a very cool licensing-system.
Size doesnt matter that much, the local scene seems to appreciate DJs with their own gear as I´ve heard multiple times. Also here in my room I´ve got an entire desk just for the sound-stuff. Small is good for the way to go somewhere, but also I dont think that big would be a problem at all – I´ll just need to get a controllerbag or carryingcase.

That could be possible that the actual controller is the license. Funny thing that this is a topic nobody seems to really know.

As for the MC6000MK2 I went to the few local stores but I didnt found it. Luckily I got into dialogue with one of the workers in a musician-store wo appeared to have the MK1 himself. Today I was there again because he was so pleasant that he offered me to see it in person. – And its really unvelieveable how many controls on this small surface are! I can report that it really felt sturdy – but also as my worry was it felt pretty small. I was allowed to have a short demo with it and it wasnt like I really jammed things up … But this may be a problem in wild situations.
On the other hand the also considered S4 is pretty similar in size … So maybe Im just to worried. On the S4 it appears to be more spacious.
So far a decision still is pretty hard as now even another controller entered the competition 😀
Thanks to the guys who already posted here

I think it would be easier if everyone of the two DJs would have his own 2 channels to load and prepare. Like everyone would have two complete decks, maybe deck a&c and b&d, so that its splittet n half basically. I´m´not the kind of a dj that plays every tune until its end, I like to mix things up with shorter passages – and this may be the situations where this would come in handy. – Atleast thats my way of thinking about it.

The MC6000MK2 looks pretty sharp – no doubt that it packs alot of functions. But I have to admit (without seeing it actually in person!) that it looks quite cramped. I still will look a bit into it and try to find it in one of the local stores to get a glimpse in the actual size and feeling. Thanks for the input!

The Sennheiser HD-25´s are On-Ear design – exactly what Cheeku does NOT want.
I have heard many positive opinions on the Audio Technica ATH M50, so maybe these will be worth a look, too.
Also I personally use the V-Moda Crossfade LP (Try them out before buying, some people think that they dont isolate well enough because of the semi-open design) which are, atleast in my opinion, very comfy and also pretty “cheap” nowadays – or the foldable pendant, the M-100 that also come in at a much higher price.

But for the further help a budget would be good to know.

There is no way in that you can actually control any kind of dj-software with an analogue mixer without midi signals. All you could do (with the mentioned a4, an a6 … And of course the rane soundcards for serato) is creating a dvs system. This lets you play your digital filea from the pc/mac that you have in the system, but the actual djing is done outside if the software.
