Seconded. Take your time and practice, it will come. Its a useful skill to have as beat grids don’t always tell the truth and sometimes fail completely.

Your last paragraph contains a large chunk of the information required to be a good DJ. Humility is the key, and not taking yourself too seriously. It does depend on the gig in question, however there are very few gigs where taking requests is not viable IMHO.

Always start by mixing music that you *love*. The love of music is your strongest ally when learning to DJ, just don’t be surprised or disheartened if you don’t feel like you’re learning the DJ skills you think you need. Trust me, you will be and even when doing Phil’s crash course it may take a little time for what you learn to be perfected. The first year is all about practise and mixing the music that excites you.
Stick with it and you won’t go far wrong 🙂

I’d never even heard of the Produb license until this thread. Seems legit but I don’t plan on having one anytime soon. Up to you if its worth 85 notes a year.

I need a very small ethernet router with wireless on it before I can do that. Was looking at the LM007 but can’t find them for sale anywhere now.

+1 on the Denon gear idea. My gear list is in my sig, the x600 isn’t Traktor certified but works fine so I don’t need my Audio 8 anymore. The sc3900’s are a dream to use, no need for timecode cd’s and Denon have a Traktor mapping for them on their webby.
But oh noes! Traktor has died mid set, oh well I’ll just use my mp3 cds that I brought with me just in case. Worth considering if you want a versatile set up with a couple options to keep playing if your laptop dies mid gig.

I did a quick bit of digging and found at least two different contact names, emails and Skype details in as many forum posts advertising this company. As you found for yourself, for a firm that’s allegedly been going since 2008 they haven’t appeared to have bothered announcing themselves until May of this year.

If it’s too good to be true then it usually is. Save your money and buy Denon anyway 🙂

My kids don’t live with me, so I’m sort of childless. However the missus is fairly keen on starting a family in the next few years so I’ll probably be a dad again before I’m 40. The things we do to keep our ladies happy. I’ll still be gigging though, that much won’t change. Someone should start a “grumpy old DJs” thread 😀

No worries, glad the info was useful to you. My mate still gigs with his old Audio 4, look after it and it will serve you well 🙂

Or simply don’t worry about what key they’re in and mix them anyway. Good EQ’ing will solve any any clashes but 99% of listeners won’t notice anyway.

NI make good cards, I was using an Audio 8 up until I got my Denon x600 mixer last month. It depends on what hardware you’re wanting to use with it, what kit have you got so far?. To be honest a second hand Audio 4 might be better, and way cheaper. Besides the Audio 6 usually ships with a copy of Traktor anyway which would render your Mixvibes purchase pointless.

28 years old? You’re just a pup old fruit 😉

I’m 37, not married (yet) but I have children from a previous relationship. I find myself having 2 groups of friends, the friends within 5 years each way of my age, who I’ve known years, and then everyone else who are at least 25 and mostly younger. I met the younger mob simply through being in that scene, so in my opinion it’s a case of putting yourself out there and you will soon meet people the “right” age. Which is basically what D-Jam said up thread 🙂
