yes I will definitely give it a go – I have one more question though, if I get a new midi controller without jog wheels does that mean sync is then the only way you can use it?

I would like to practice my beat matching on a midi controller but my Vestax controller is just not good enough, the jog wheels always stick and the pitch is too small for small accurate adjustments 🙁

I have no problem with sync when making a serious mix but messing around is much more fun without, but I cant afford CDJs.

Bizzarely despite using Sync all the time, my mixing and beat matching is much improved on my friends CDJs, you would think the opposite would happen! Anyone else had this?

If I find a track by an artist I like then I will search for more of their tracks. Check out what that artist is spinning. Most websites ie have a link to their play lists. Check out the other artists on the same label. For techno and minimal I usually find better music when I stay away from the larger sites like Beatport.

Thanks Steelo – I have spent time looking through netlabels but a lot of the free music is not always good quality – I am starting to find good stuff through soundcloud though:)

Searching and listening to new music is my favourite past time and I cant wait to finish work and do it again tonight 😉

My advice is listen to as much music as possible and use it to positively influence the music you are really passionate about!

For listening to new music YouTube is your friend – I can get lost for hours clicking on the related videos 🙂

My guess is there is a similar amount of professional DJs out there – maybe a few more than in the past as electronic music has become more mainstream, but yes lots of bedroom DJs who just do it for the love of the music rather than seeing it as an actual career.

It is strange, because I run a small night with my friends in a little basement we usually get between 30 – 60 people going and everyone has a laugh and a good time. The guys who organise it don’t really see themselves as proper DJs or promoters because we are just doing it for fun and lose money rather than make money, but we do have some talented people and I think if you asked the average person who comes to the party they would say we are DJs and quite professional!
