I find coffee or redbull does the trick for me. I find bangin’ tunes helps the beer go down a little too fast and I soon lose track of how many I’ve had. Caffeine keeps me alert and in the zone.

The way I see it I’m all for the future of music regardless of the media. Obviously digitalis the future, how we present those noughts and ones to an audience is down to us as individuals but I do appreciate the input even if it goes against how I feel. What a boring world we would have if we all shared the same opinions!

    Anyway….

I’ve almost decided on the NDX500 AKai AMX + AFX combo so I’m hoping to have the best of both worlds with this setup! That is of course unless anyone thinks there might be problems?

Hi Todd and many thanks for the input. I do remember the flip from vinyl to CDJ’s and yeah, ther was there some serious issues among the purist’s as there still is today! Me personally, I see it as a world for everyone and as long as you make people feel alive with your music none of the crowd care how you do it. What’s not been mentioned here is how a person feels, on a personal level, playing off a system he/she might not like. Yeah some may say “controllers are far better than CDJ’s” but if a person simply doesn’t like controllers then the whole statement means nothing to them. I do like controllers, I also like vinyl and CD so I hope to be happy playing on any system in the future.

I’m really leaning towards a NDX500 with the Akai AMX & EFX. This will still require a DVS upgrade to allow integration apparently but I’m still researching like mad at the moment.

Some may say this is quite shallow but one of the things that matters to me is how the system looks, as it will pretty much be taking centre stage in the living room. I have a 2m side board that was home to a pair of 1210’s many years ago and having a tiny controller on there would look a bit silly if I’m honest. Like I say, some might find that daft but for me I’d like to fill that space to give me the vibe that I need when getting in the mix.

Anyway, thanks for the input I do like the look of the numark/akai combination, and the missis is buying me a macbook for my birthday in february so I’ve got until then to make my decision and then I’ll be treating myself to my new gear! Whoop!

    All the best

For me personally I’ve always wanted a pair of CDJ’s. I’ve a fairly large collection of music on CD and I’m not entirely sure I’m ready to go straight to a controller just yet. I do however think digital DJing is the future without a doubt and so I’d love to have the ability to mix the two. The Numark NDX500’s seem to fit the bill at a very cheap price.

I truly see digital as the future. Everything is downloads these days, even the charts, yet for me as a long time wannabe I’ve always had the ambition of owning a pair of Pioneers, I mean, who would refuse a pair of 2000NX’s? Massively over-expensive I grant you, but still a beautiful piece of kit in anyone’s eye. I’ve always liked modular setups, even my stereo systems have been modular over the years and I’d definitely like to take that route with a DJ setup.

I do reckon I’ll invest in a full on controller at some point but right now I’m leaning towards the NDX500’s as a cheap introduction to digital whilst retaining the ability to play all my CD’s. I’ve read Phil’s review and although not perfect having a few flaws they seem like a good piece of kit for the money, certainly for a relative beginner like me.

Anyway, that’s my thought’s on why I want a setup like I do. Ramble over.

Wow thanks for the tips! I’ve just bought the fast course so will watch all the videos before I even contemplate getting some gear. Definitely won’t be rushing into anything and I’ve had plenty of good experiences with eBay and Amazon so may go down that route for my stuff.

What I do know right now is after spending a small fortune on everyone else at Christmas It’s time to spend a few bob on me! lol

I’ve set myself a budget of about £500-£750 to get me started so hopefully I’ll get some decent gear for that.

Many thanks for all the advice ThinAir much appreciated and taken onboard!

I’m based in Doncaster but am originally from Manchester I seem to struggle to move any lower than that latitude, it must be the Northerner in me. lol

As far as setup is concerned I’m suffering from information overload at the minute. Controllers are the way forward no question but I still feel this undying urge for a set of CDJ’s too and reckon I’ll go for a combo of both, as to which I’m still massively undecided. Budget wise It’s a choice between some brand new Numark CDJ’s or some second hand Pioneer 1000’s but I just can’t make my mind up right now. I’ve not even contemplated what controller to get yet, I think I’ll end up signing up for Phil’s course and make a decision after that.

What I do know is that It’s definitely going to happen. I did my first house party last night with just a laptop and Virtual DJ and it was the biggest buzz of my life. Granted I was cheating with a bit but I still nailed most of the mixes and the place rocked, I’ve never known a feeling like it! Can’t wait to get a proper setup and do it properly!

If you do have any tips on getting a setup or any pitfalls to look out for I’d I’d appreciate it!
