VesperParticipant
Got any suggestions on where to learn? I didn’t take any music qualifications and I don’t know a thing about music theory (I preferred the freedom of learning what you wanna learn when you wanna learn it. Oh, And the fact i didn’t know i was into DJing when i had the option lol)
VesperParticipantFor the record, I know some basic controls (Panning, Soloing, Muting, Etc…). And only a couple of basic ones (W-Length makes the tone more or less “clean”, and Low-Pass-Filter will only allow Low tones if i twiddle the parameters enough lol)
VesperParticipantKnife Party are pretty bad for sticking awesome songs in sets yet never releasing them though. We will never hear some of the great tracks by them. Quite a shame. I was looking forward to their collaboration track with Zedd they hinted at. Not to mention the VIP remixes…
VesperParticipantThey do look better to be honest. I was suggested flight cases. But i’m not going abroad with my gear any time soon, plus I don’t even have a car! (You can imagine how irritating it would be if i had to bring a flight case on the bus)
VesperParticipantI am expecting the Twitch 2 eventually (because of the massive success of the Twitch), but they haven’t dropped any hints at all that it is coming soon. Usually, They’ll drop hints every now and then, like a lil prototype they’re building or such. There’s been none of that so far, so i’d say it’s at least a couple years off.
Also, Nice choice of controller. Now, wanna buy me one? ^-^
VesperParticipantIf you want to keep things cheap. I’d recommend Mixxx. It sure as hell isn’t as advanced as the big three. But it’s free. And if you’re willing to spend a little time mapping your controller manually, or mapping your keyboard (I have heard this is a great idea. Throw away the controller for a little while and focus solely on keyboard and mouse. Restrictions make you more creative) then you can end up doing a real banging mix. And if it is crap and you hate it, then what have you lost? You didn’t invest any money into it…
EDIT: Just took a look. Mixxx supports the Numark Total Control by default. So go ahead and give it a try, and if you don’t like it, just uninstall!

VesperParticipantNot yet. Don’t have a can of compressed air hanging around. I’ll have to pick up a can and give it a shot
VesperParticipantI love how they are quick to point fingers at EDM, But let’s not forget about the countless amounts of pop music videos which tend to be a bit exposing (Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, I can go on for hours…)
VesperParticipantIt happens a lot depending on the artist. People like Knife Party and Skrillex tend to do this a lot due to the automatic system. Whereas people who are a bit smaller, like Zomboy or Let’s Be Friends, don’t.
VesperParticipantI am hoping to avoid opening it up. As it is always risky when taking apart equipment. But if i do, would anyone like me to take photographs of the teardown to show how to take it apart and put it back together?
VesperParticipantHeh, Thanks. I really love the controller and find it brings something new to the table. I find scratching as a DJ is over-glorified and new digital techniques seem to be underrated. My brother, who is also learning to DJ, suggested scratching. But with a lot of mainstream electro-house stuff (Lets Be Friends, Razihel, Knife Party etc…) I don’t think that would sound so good at all (It would work well for him with his Neon Steve, Krafty Kuts and Bobby C Sound stuff, as that generally has quite a different sound to it, i’d be tempted to say it closely ties in with things like hip-hop. But i don’t listen to hip-hop, so that is based on an assumption).
Also, Any decent placed to get one? I’m tempted to sell my Instinct to get one, but its such a small controller that I can see it being really useful in those moments when you need to go as light as possible. Not to mention i’ll then have a back-up!
VesperParticipantI love the amount of research that has clearly went into this articles. Clearly they got a balanced opinion, enforced both sides, asked a large sample…
Nope, They just picked up the most revealing EDM magazine, and festival videos they could find! Ain’t the media scumbags sometimes?
VesperParticipantPretty good, You can get some good feedback and its generally really fun
VesperParticipantSoundcloud I have found is not DJ friendly. If you upload mixes to soundcloud, you are best uploading ones with no big artists in. I have found smaller names like Savant are ignored, whereas a mix i had with a Skrillex song in was instantly removed.
Mixify is much more DJ-friendly in my honest opinion…
