    From what I remember the Ergo uses virtualDJ if I’m correct. I used to have crazy distortion issues with virtual DJ when I plugged my controller into a usb3.0 slot. When I eventually figured it out I just plugged into another usb slot. Have you had issues with the controller before?

    I used to put about 10 seconds of random noise (backwards tracks, random scratching, pitches up and down) at the start of my mix to get it past the copyright sensors. Just create a small 10 second track of random noise (fade in and out so it doesn’t sound shit) and paste it on the front of your mix using Audacity and it should be ok to put up.

    I’ve now got a mixcrate which so far seems a lot less lenient on the whole copyright thing.

    I agree with this in saying Dubstep as a genre can be akin to Grunge and the Seattle scene in the 90’s. Dubstep is the manifestation of EDM moving into the pop arena and people, who thought it sold out, decided to make something dirtier, heavier and more in roots with how foundation EDM music was made (full synthesis of all sounds in this case).

    It’s a niche scene with niche nights.

    The tracks were awesome in the mix. I would love to see you redo this mix in the future when you have a higher skill set (which is given). Props to putting yourself out there to be critiqued, shows your serious about getting better! I agree that phrasing is important. Take the time to study pieces of house or dance music and see that it normally flows in 8/16/32 beat phrases.

    Another example of this phrasing (as a addendum to Mr_John’s example)
    In the last song of the mix, after the massive epic motherfucker buildup (I think that’s what it says), count out the kick hits out loud and notice that 32 counts (or 4 sets of 8 counts) in you get a double snare hit and then another 32 counts in you get “epic motherfucker” which goes into another 32 counts which is more obviously less heavy. These changes are where you would normally drop the next song in.

    For me, Dancing is very important to get a real feel for a song. I try my hardest to picture myself in a club dancing to what I’m mixing.

    Recording and listening critically to my mixing has also improved my ability leaps and bounds. AND handing out those mixes to my friends for them to critique. Sure they don’t know the mechanics of actual mixing but they will tell me what they didn’t like about the mix and boost my confidence when they tell me if they love it, which will make me enjoy practice more.
