Native Instruments has just entered the loops and samples sector in a big way with Sounds, a subscription platform that lets you download any number of royalty-free loops and samples from a wide selection of music genres and loop makers.

There are over 500,000 sounds at the time of launch, including content from popular loop and sample site The Loop Loft. There’s a variety of sounds available, ranging from orchestral instruments to cutting edge dance synths, and all of which are individually tagged and can be sorted by BPM, musical key, genre and so on.

Membership costs US$9.99/month and gets you access to the entire catalogue, though you can sign up for free to preview everything on the service and to download a taster pack.

Why loops and samples?

Using loops and samples is the easiest and most popular way for people to get started producing tracks, and the “big secret” of all prolific producers, it’s what we teach in our FREE Dance Music Formula training course, starting soon! We like the idea of an all access pass to a trove of high quality sounds – think of this as a “Netflix of sounds” so to speak, with a monthly fee giving access to the full catalogue. The fact that Native Instruments has secured the domain “sounds.com” shows the company is deadly serious about this. It will be interesting to see how the market reacts and how much resource Native Instruments puts into this endeavour.

• Sounds costs US$9.99/month and is currently available to customers in the US only. Check the Sounds site for more details.
