IK Muiltimedia just announced Modo Drum, a percussion synthesiser plugin for DJ/producers. Instead of using drum samples, Modo Drum recreates the sound, feel and response of real-world drum kits, giving you tons of ways to customise the way they sound in your mix. You get 10 drum kits with swappable characteristics.

You can even get granular and change parameters like the shell profile of the drums, change the snare wire being used – you can even change the drum sticks and kick drum beater. And since it uses synthesis instead of drum samples, it loads faster and takes up less space on your hard drive.

We love acoustic drums as much as electronic kits in our productions: coming up with a funk groove for hip-hop or disco using an organic kit can make your tune stand out in a world dominated by presets and generic samples. Modo Drum lets you do that, but gives you an expanded palette of sounds and possibilities thanks to it synthesised nature.
