Coltrane09ParticipantCan you mix and record with Serato DJ without having a controller plugged in like you can with Traktor Pro?

gullumParticipanta tsi file is like a setup file for traktor it contains all the midi date information about what your cantrollers buttons and knobs will do in Traktor. A tsi file can also contain your audio setting, GUI, Favorit folder and such.
https://maps.djtechtools.com/mappings/851 thats to one made by Viper and should get you going without to much problems. he’s also made a good description of what everything doesDecember 3, 2012 at 1:39 pm #33043In reply to: Pioneer DDJ-SX
Dixon ChenParticipantwhat does ‘tsi file’ stands for and where to get it? sry i’m currently very new to Djing and havent buy any stuff yet =(

gullumParticipant@Dj DD Yes it works perfect with Traktor although scratching is not 100% as good as with S4 but I never scratch.
With the propper tsi file you get everything that traktor has to offer mapped to the controller I also have an F1 so I’ve mapped the sampler for beatgridding.@ Terry 42 I’ve had mine now about 2 weeks and I’ve not encounter one problem so I’ve not needed any support 😀 so don’t know about that.
And I still stand by comment that this is the best controller for Traktor there is. Serato DJ I’m just not feeling it I don’t like the way the FX work. They work almost like you expect from a DAW not realy like something you’d do on the fly. The only thing I would like to have in Traktor from SDJ would be the slicer but then again I’d would not use it that much.December 3, 2012 at 12:25 pm #33040In reply to: Pioneer DDJ-SX
Dixon ChenParticipantGulli Johansen, post: 32100, member: 847 wrote: I totaly love it. it is a bit big but a lot lighter then it looks. Mixer feels a lote like the DJM 800 or 900 , then knobs are nice and stiff fader also. most button have a nice click feel so can feel that you have pressed them. The pads are almost identical to Maschine pads, I wouldn’t mind if the had the click feel of the F1 would be better for hotcue jogeling. Jogwheel also feel realy good. The sound is lovely realy alot louder then my VMS4.
I tried hooking up my American Audio Radius 3000 to test the standalone mixer and it also works amazingly well nice filter and EQ, I also connected a Shure PG58 and it does not distort as some have reported their mic does.
Serato DJ it’s an ok software but at the version 1 there are lots of things they need to add, scraching DJ should us Serato DJ as it’s best with this controller. I’ve mostley used the controller with Traktor Pro 2.6 and it works like a charm with DDJ SX.
With Traktor the DDJ SX feels like it’s was made with the lates version in mind. Vipers tsi gives you all S4 functionaletis + a lot more. I’ve started on my own tsi. with the DDJ SX you get everything Flux (slip button) post fader FX, several pad banks(Mapped to your hearth desire). I can’t see any controller for a EDM DJ tahat can give you so much kontroll over Traktor, Hip Hop (scratch)DJ’s who want to use Traktor this is probable not the one for you.
There is also of today a VDJ mapper for it, only just tried it and most functions from the standar VDJ skin are mapped.
This is the most compleat Traktor controller I’ve ever used.
For Serato users this is the be all controller for Serato DJ, Intro and Itch controllers that will get compadabillety later will all be missing some futures. I resived an email today telling me that a new version of Serato DJ is on it’s way.Does that mean that the DDJ-SX works perfectly with Traktor Pro 2.6? My current plan is to buy a Traktor F1 to get the Traktor Pro 2 and get the DDJ-SX cause i really love the layout of traktor, serato looks childish for me x.X Any comment with my plan???

Terry_42KeymasterFor the guys who have one since launch: Any more longer term thoughts about the DDJ SX?
How are they holding up, how is support,…November 29, 2012 at 8:28 am #32860In reply to: hey help plz
Terry_42KeymasterIt is great for the purpose it was invented for, which is fun mixing and the occasional home party. I would not describe it as a professional DJ tool, but even Pioneer does not, so why should I 😉

af.shawn998Participantthankyou gulli and terry. i have made my mind up now. gonna save up for the ddj sx. i knew it was a amazing controller but i didnt know it could do all that. I love serato just for general mixing, but i was going to get into traktor so that i could use the samples and all the effects that traktor has with that. but now that i know it can use traktor just as easily you saved me the pain of getting it and deeply regreting the ddj sx, so thankyou.

gullumParticipantapart form scratching the DDJ SX is miles better then the S4 for Traktor. There simply is nothing that the S4 can do that the DDJ SX can’t do and then some more. There is already a realy good tsi file for the DDJ SX from Viper. I’ve made my own that I’m not finished with yet.
Each button in each deck mode has it’s own midi message and even the shift+button has is own midi messages, so you almost don’t need to use modifiers at all I’ve only used 2 modifiers to get looproll working in flux mode.
a smal demo of looproll with and without Flux mode
Because of the many options it’s like having an S4 + midifighter + CDJ2000 and standalone mixer in 1 unit.
the DDJ SX is now fully working with Serato DJ, Traktor Pro, Virtual DJ and Djay and soon will be mapped to DJ Player for iPad 😀
The DDJ SX is quite big (witch IMO is good) it’s not nearly as heavy as it looks only 5.8 KG the S4 is 3.4 KG in comparison my VMS4 witch is smaler then bouth is 6 KG.
Well it clear that I love the controller 😀November 28, 2012 at 8:18 am #32738In reply to: Wait for pioneer ddj tx or get the S4?
Terry_42KeymasterDepends. For some people mapping anything in Traktor is hard… I actually found it OKish to map my things in Traktor.
But I think there are already mappings for the DDJ SX available, I think Hee on the forum here uses it with Traktor.November 28, 2012 at 8:05 am #32737In reply to: Wait for pioneer ddj tx or get the S4?
af.shawn998ParticipantOhh… Well even if they don’t come out with the tx how hard do you think it will be to map the sx to traktor. I’m also planning on using a kontrol f1

Terry_42KeymasterSince we do not yet know what the DDJ TX will be like (or if it actually will come) I cannot tell you…
November 28, 2012 at 7:02 am #32731Topic: Wait for pioneer ddj tx or get the S4?
in forum Digital DJ Gearaf.shawn998ParticipantI’m on a crossroads here. I have the chance to get a really good deal on a NI kontrol S4 with a case in the near future. I was going to get it until I started hearing that pioneer may come out with a ddj tx for traktor. I’ve read and watched the review on here and fell in love with it. But it just came out for serato and I do t know when they will drop the traktor version of it or how closely nit it will be to the software. So I am reaching out to you guys for advice on this one. Should I wait for the ddj tx or just get the s4?

gullumParticipantI’ve also use the DDJ SX for 2 nights 5 hour each over the weekend using my own tsi for Traktor and I had no problems whats so ever with the unit. Only problem was I sometimes forgot I had eco out activated and when using internal mixing I can cue in headpohones and not know it was activated so when moving the fader up there was no sound. After the first time it happened and I figured why it was not a problem anymore. Good think of DJ out with a new mapp is you find new things to mapp you did not think of at home. It has so much more power and sound so much better then my VMS4 and I’m realy glad I did this purcase. I’m going to make a video of using it with Traktor just need to do some more mappings.
