    Hi all

Just wondering if anyone out there knows what this problem is or has had similar?

Saturday I worked a relatively small festival – got there and the sound and kit was spot on – Pioneer 2000’s (unfortunately I didn’t think about looking at which model) with Rekordbox showing on the screen. I’d carried a lot of music in on USB sticks and inserted one in each deck (I believe they were linked but never having used this kit – I’m normally laptop and controller set up – wasn’t aware that they could be).

After a while Deck 1 started acting up – I could scroll through the tunes and I could check it in my headphones and cue it but no matter what I did when I hit play it would skip back to the last successfully queued and played track even though I’d loaded it ready to play. Luckily I had some CD’s burned as well as a back up because I didn’t know what I’d be playing on so I managed to get through my sets. I should say Deck 2 never had this problem throughout.

I chalked this up to user error and thought no more until yesterday when I got told another one of the dj’s on after me on same rig had exactly the same problem. I’m trying to understand what happened and still think user error may play into it – could it be that two USB sticks in linked decks was confusing the system? Was it the Rekordbox scrolling tunes not prepared on Rekordbox software?

I’d really appreciate any help with this one – the decks were great but Deck 1 did give me grey hair and a potential heart attack.

    thanks in advance

    Si

    Hi all!
I’m looking to upgrade my DJ setup. I only DJ digital with Serato DJ, no CDJ or vinyl.
Currently I’m using the Vestax VCI-380 and I’m thinking of either upgrading my setup with the Pioneer DDJ-SP1 sub-controller or to upgrade to Vestax VCI-400.
As I understand both units will give me more control over the FX unit and other Serato DJ functions that aren’t easily accessible with the VCI-380. If I understood correctly without actual 4 channels on the mixer section, I wouldn’t be able to add 2 more decks with the DDJ-SP1. Is this right?
So, any suggestions would be most welcome.

    Thank you!

    Hello everyone,

I recently started DJing and invested in some speaker equipment for the house parties that we throw on campus.
Here is the equipment that I am working with.

    Controller: Pioneer DJ SB-2
    Software: Serato DJ Pro
    Speakers: 2x JBL EON615.

I ordered the speakers and I ordered XLR to component cables as the red/white components are the only outputs on the SB-2. When I use this setup, sound only comes out properly through one speaker, and the other one is muffled. I am assuming it is due to unbalanced wiring.

I have been trying to do a lot of research, but wiring and hardware confuses me, so I am looking for help on what kind of equipment and wiring I will need to use this controller with these dual speakers and to produce balanced, powerful sound?

Any help would be appreciated, and if need be I can give someone my phone number if communication would be easier that way.

    Thanks!
    Cameron

Thanks for all the advice. I must have something not set up right then to record my mixes. I am using a Pioneer DDJ SX2 and Serato DJ. I just hit the record button and go lol. But there is definitely a volume change whenever I move the channel faders. I certainly need to get in on one of these courses for sure. Hopefully in the future I want to take the Production courses as well.

    Hi,

As Virtual DJ and Spotify are still under negotiation, here is my Spotify + Portable Backup system solution to share :
(contains a link to your Review & Video: Pioneer Rekordbox DJ Software)

    6 Wheels + 2 Touch setup

My Home DJ Gear 2017 ( Numark Mixdeck Quad on i7 16GB Touch notebook + Pioneer WeGo4 on iPod Touch )

6 Wheels setup composed of 2 vinyl turntables + 2 mp3 jogwheels + 2 Spotify jogwheels running on 2 Touch DJ softwares.

Any songs from any media inside the house and 20+ millions songs outside the house!

Playable medias include Vinyl, CD, USB drive, Harddisk, iPod and the unforgetable cassette tape.

Now I can play extremely long DJ sets! LOL

    Thank you for stopping by

    Best Regards,

Also, this may be a stupid question, but I’ll ask it nonetheless. Let’s say i go for http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/pioneer-ddj-sb2-2-channel-serato-dj-controller-black-a79ua?cmpid=ppc:dj,_studio__audio:non_brand:google&gclid=Cj0KEQjwkZfLBRCzg-69tJy84N8BEiQAffAwqkNYxlXzjfsKkBBbYQiJJikodLzrwLJWepAo8yBo4SgaAnDw8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

Now I can’t see anywhere on there about any output cables for speakers e.g. RCAs and XLRs. Will I have to purchase those separately? If so, what sort of cables would you recommend and what should i budget for them?

    TIA

Valid point. I’m not sure what CDJs i’ve used before, but the Pioneer tech i’ve worked with before have been the DDJ-T1 and DDJ-SX2. Thanks for the advice 🙂

The only real laptop-less option today is really the new Denon Prime series. I own the MCX8000 and while it is a great controller, there are still some limitations to not using it with software. What it does do is make it easier to put the laptop to the side and use the screens more for visual feedback and most basic things. Extensive searching, browsing and such still better on a laptop with keyboard. As is setting some FX and stuff.

The SC5000 Prime players (full dual layer!) have built-in i5 processors, an iPad mini sized HD touchscreen (glass, not that plastic feeling you get on cheaper phones) that is really fully functional. Combined with the X1800 Prime mixer you have what is an “old school” setup of two players (actually 4 with the dual layer functionality) and a mixer, but with all the features of a modern digital DJ setup.

While I have never longed to own the CDJ Nexus (having played with it regularly) and being completely happy with all the controllers I have owned, the Primes are high on my wishlist.

Clearly the pricing is a bit different. While lower priced than a (not really) comparable Pioneer Nexus2k2 setup, it is still a LOT more than a controller.

I would say your plan sounds solid. If only to find out the do’s and dont’s and your personal workflow. Having a look at the (moneyback guarantee) How To Digital DJ Fast course might help accelerate your learning curve.

Thanks vintage, appreciate the quick response!

All my WMAs are in 320-kbps with VBR (variable bit rate). That means some files get ripped at rates as high as 400 kbps.

I like the idea of re-ripping a core of 1000 files and transcoding a “second tier” of 1000 to 320-MP3.

Also, did a little research last night and it looks like Virtual DJ is a software package that has native support for WMA.

I’m thinking now of getting a DDJ-SR for $300-$400 used on eBay, and Virtual DJ pro for another $300; that’s a lot less than what I was planning to spend on the new Denon MCX8000 or Pioneer XDJ, lol.

I’m still not keen on the idea of working off a laptop; it looks to me that the “old school” approach of going almost-all hardware is starting to comeback with the new generation of controllers from Denon and Pioneer, and that was the way I wanted to go. But I guess I’ll have to get used to the idea of the laptop being the “control center” after all.

It’s so frustrating. I’ve been playing WMAs on “mp3 players” and now smartphones for over 12 years no problem. The Sandisk Sansa first came out way back in 2005 and played my WMAs no problem. I just assumed WMA would be supported on the dj side as well, not just the consumer devices.

Well Pioneer makes gear in quite a broad price range … so the feel of CDJ-2000NXS2 will be different from playing on a DDJ-SB2. Same is true for some other brands.

Interesting. Would be great if you could shoot a video of a couple of tracks that can’t be beat matched, or that won’t stay beat matched once set. I’ve had and used almost all models of Pioneers club gear since the start (CDJ, DJM-500), and the one thing that kept me using Pioneer is the reliability and precision stability. I know that the XDJ-1000 had a hardware fault where the tempo could shift over long mixes, just like vinyl does, and this is acknowledged by Pioneer. For the models you used there’s no such problem.

I have the 2000NXS2’s and I have only used them with Rekordboxed music, kind of pointless having them not doing that… :). Sync shouldn’t be used unless for creative mixing with 3-4 decks at the same time anyway, but I’ll shove a few tracks on to a USB stick and see how it works. The only time I’ve had problems with tracks not staying at a set tempo is when there’s a bad mp3, or wav-rip for that matter. The skip may be so small you can’t hear it just listening to the track, but when lined up in a mix, you will absolutely notice. If you can’t shoot a video, it would be great to know which tracks that were the worst, or just an example if there were many.

By setting them at the same tempo, do you mean the same readings on the screens, or being sure by listening to them keeping the tempo for 30 seconds in the headphones. When using non RB’s tracks, the BPM readings of the player can be misleading, but at least accurate enough to show the nearest full beat. Down to the tenth of a beat, I’d just trust analyzed files. Then, using the pitch at 6%, will give you 4-5 frames per 10th of a second to adjust, which I find necessary when doing long, 2 min’s transitions playing house. I still have and use my old CDJ-1000Mk3’s for practice now and then, and the stay very stable over long transitions using CD’s. Can’t see why the newer models shouldn’t do the same. A colleague only using CD’s upgraded a while ago to the NXS2’s (no comments 😉 ) and he was over the moon last time I talked to him. He surely would have said something if he’d experienced any serious troubles like this. I’ll return after doing some testing with the results, good or bad.

    Hi All,

In short: I’m 45, started djing in NYC back in the early 90’s, cut my teeth mixing on 1200s playing house, dancehall, et al. Left the scene a long long time ago.

I now have a MASSIVE cd (and vinyl) collection numbering in the thousands. All kinds of music and genres, not just club music.

Problem is: I made the very dumb decision in the early 2000’s to rip in WMA format (variable bit rate [VBR] to boot!).

Only the stuff bought from Amazon, Beatport, and Traxsource are in MP3. Almost everything else is in WMA.

I want to try to get back to a little deejaying; and I have the money to invest in some new professional equipment, but it doesn’t make any sense to splurge in top-of-the-line Pioneer or Denon if it can’t play my WMAs.

    Laptop-wise, Serato doesn’t seem to support WMA either. . . 🙁

There’s NO way I can spend years re-ripping thousands of cds and vinyls!

    My question is two-part:

    1) I’m willing to convert (going to keep the WMA “masters” in my Amazon cloud) music I might play live to MP3, but only if the sound quality hit is negligible. I’m concerned about sound quality, I’ve heard converting or re-ripping from a compressed source is not recommended as the sound quality will degrade. Is this true? If true, what are the recommended options to minimize the problem?

    2) Is there any software or hope for me? What can I do or use that supports WMA?

This could be the shortest comeback ever, lol, if the answers are not good! :0)

I’m afraid WMA could stand for Without Many Answers. . .

    Thanks for any help/advice!

    DAN
