I am curious as to what are all the options to DJ digitally without a laptop. I’m looking to minimize my setup slightly and don’t really want to go the CDJ route. My google-fu has only come up with the Stanton SCS.4DJ which looks great but is missing out on some features that I use (multiple cue points, gain, etc) and the Pioneer XDJ-Aero which looks cool but again is missing multiple cue points (which I understand, is asking a lot) and has the “gimmicky” feel to it (wi-fi, really?).

The Denon SC2900 is the closest to what I am looking for. It would be perfect if it didn’t have a CD drive and was just a digital media player. I’m hoping that this thread will turn into a list showing all the options that I have missed.

    List so far:
    Stanton SCS.4DJ
    Pioneer XDJ-Aero
Denon SC2900 (kinda, it still is a CDJ)

What’s wrong with the SC900 having a CD drive? The CD drive just gives you more playback options.
    It’s still a media player.

the biggest thing u want to look for when it comes to sound isolation is circumaural…i think thats the right term…where the headphones sit around the ear…not on the ear.

I guess you are in the UK, so I would try ordering these:
    http://www.zomo.de/en/Products/Headphones/Zomo-Headphones-HD-1200.html?XTCsid=a9d032573c7b23d219014000cd33ea4f

I like the design of the Pioneers, but some people do not like the small cups and the “hole in the mids”, however I still rather use my Zomos, than those.
Same goes for the RedWaves and RHP-10s. I have never tried the XD40s so I cannot comment on them.

I have a shure PG58 and don’t have any issues with it and in serato dj the jogs are good I’m not a scratch DJ so can’t give an opinion how good it realy is. In Traktor it’s also good with the Viper mapping although I haven’t played with the controller more then an Hour or so I’m in love. Love at first sight.
It’s kind of like you see a girl and you like her looks, then you talk to her and your in love 😀

    Nice one!

I on the other hand along with many other people, Are seriously fucking frustrated…

First initial release: 1st of November, For which 2 were only allocated to my retailer I pre-ordered from
We was told stock would be coming in a week after that – It didn’t happen, Then we was told it was to be the 14th.. and now maybe tomorrow. But now according to Sales at Pioneer the shipment won’t be at the UK until the 26th.

I for one have been very excited since October 7th, and indeed the day’s leading up to the 1st.

and while I was writing this…

Just this moment had a phone call from DJkit to say they’ve got some stock, and that my DDJ-SX is Ready for shipping!!!

I just hope those who pre-ordered from DJkit also get that phone call today 🙂

So Im needing a naw pair of headphones and have been looking at the pioneer HDJ 500s. As I cant get a pair to test I thought I would as for advice. As they are not full earcups, is the noise cancelation good enough for djing in a club? I also like the look of the Allen & Heath Xone XD40 but imagined these could have the same problem. Or do the cheaper full cup headphones like the Numark Red Waves/ Reloop RHP10 have better isolation with just as good sound quality? Or is there any other suggestions for under £100?
    Thanks!

Personal i think you may get off with a flanger in trance but thats about it… very overused effect. Just from your writing i imagine you have a pioneer mixer….lol

Loops are a vital place of modern djing… you can use elements of a tune that ure going to take in… as added rthymn.. for example a perc loop and eqd it so it fits in mix then then you mix the next tune in the listener has already got that sound in there heads for a few minutes so makes ure mix sound alot better.

On a good day sasha can have four tracks playing… now if mixing techno its alot easier to do this.. but he mixs melodic layers which is simply of the hook… it takes a complete understanding of harmonics and keys.

now with digital djing… you gotta be doing something else with the free time available to you with the use of the sync button… be that adding layers… dropping samples..extending mixes with loops.. loop juggling… or maybe getting some visuals on the go… and on that note if you do, dont have it running from same computer.

    Happy Mixing.

It’s true I could get much more creative, haven’t yet got the confidence to try to many tricks in public, but with experience I tend to try more and more of them 🙂

got a kontrol s4, and I love that thing ^^

A good mix needs breaks, melodic lines without bass, double drumming (throw the first beat on the upbeat of the playing song). The songs themselves and the way you blend them can already add a lot to your mixing.

When using effects, I generally use echo for beautifull female voices, a little dose of flanger just before throwing a beat everybody knows and is expecting, and loops to get out of a song when I see no exit door 🙂

Just got an email saying the next delivery for DDJ-SX’s has been delayed due to a customs issue. They are estimating beginning of December for all retailers. 🙁

Does anyone have this in stock??
