A simple difference between midi and hid is that with hid the computer is always inquiring about the state of the hid device so it “knows” where everything is at any given moment(ex. It knows the fader is at 25% when you plug it in). Midi just tells the computer what’s happening and the computer gets to it when it gets to it. That’s where latency can really creep in. So in that case if fader X is at 25% when you plug it in, midi won’t know until you move it to 26%. So hid is better for highly time sensitive actions like scratching but midi is just fine for buttons and such.
Danny PParticipantI like Gemini but I’d wait until reviews start dropping for it before buying. Also I’d like to point out that every media player looks like a cdj these days.
Danny PParticipantOne note to Hazen’s point is that a controller with work as a sound card with our software. I’m not sure about Mac but in Windows it comes up as a sound card even with no software running. You won’t be able to use the features but it’s there.

You could also look at the G4V which is the 4 channel version.Danny PParticipantI definitely would go about getting a more modern controller as most have dedicated pitch faders on each side so you can beat match manually. I it’ll be cheaper and easier to carry around.

You can get one for a pretty decent price these days. Some may have other (better) recommendations but that’s mine.
Danny PParticipantThe Mackie indeed fits the bill and exceeds it!I’ll have to wait for an eventual price drop but it seems like a handy piece of kit
Danny PParticipantThanks Vintage, that’s not a bad idea.
Danny PParticipantThis is very quotable
Danny PParticipantIt’s really nice Vintage, I’ve read about your experiences with it before. Definitely a bit overkill for my purposes. I’m shooting for something in the lower budget range. I’m not using it for any paid gigs or anything.
Danny PParticipantDoes sound come out with speakers connected to them?
Danny PParticipantGemini just doesn’t have the biggest fan base. While I do like the products (my G2V is still going strong!) without a strong fan base, there’s not a lot of people talking about it. Without a lot of people talking about it there’s no support/modding community. Without that there’s no hype. Especially without having the serato stamp it’s just not as popular.

Ways to get music before it's on iTunes or Amazon… #2145851Danny PParticipantMy personal favorite is themusicninja.com which I’m actually listening to right now. chubbybeavers.com is another option but I haven’t been on there as much. Since Facebook had a policy change regarding ‘like for downloads’, there has not been as many. Sometimes they go through twitter or Soundcloud. In fact soundcloud is where you’ll often end up.
Danny PParticipantLike the others have said before, eventuslly you just feel it and know when the next phrase will start.
