    Thanks Chuck,

Here is what I am looking to do:
I play in smaller venue clubs/lounges and use my headphones for cueing and also to listen to my actual mix. I am trying to set up a small home practice studio with decent quality speakers for listening and playing. I don’t think studio monitors are what I need based on your explanation. Also, when I am mixing in my headphones, that’s actually how the mix sounds to my audience correct? No delay correct? Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions.

If so, you can import that in any DAW or mastering program and do whatever post-production work you need to do. Logic, Ableton, Cubase, ProTools, can all do the stuff you want. And, guessing from your comments, Garageband has some wanted features as well.

Standalone suites like WaveLab (Steinberg) and Ozone (Izotope) are great tools, but aren’t exactly free.

    Good point Chuck,
Right now when I am practicing I am using the speakers connected to my master output. I want to get speakers to practice with that will sound better. Can you give me some suggestions?

Yes, because Garageband has a lot more features to help with editing. Other than recording the set, you cannot do anything else with it. You would need another program(like GarageBand) to edit the set before sharing.

The thing to remember as another person wisely said is to keep practicing. To me it sounds like you are trying to do too much at once. You need to chill and learn your music. Having a passion is also about being patient enough to learn and understand that you will make mistakes. It’s comes with learning. Learn from your mistakes. DJing is about having fun as well. Play some tunes and enjoy. Good luck and remember to breath.

To be sure that I am correct, in a 4/4 I can treat the 5 bar as the 1 bar?

Yes, basically you are saying, if I start my loop on the 5 treat that as the 1 or if the phrasing is important than stop the loop on the out going 5. Thank you for your help. This is what I have been doing. I wanted to be sure that I was correct. Terry, thank you for your help. As always.

Right!, so lets say I start my loop on the 5th bar of a 8 bar phrase and I loop for 8 beats, when I turn off the loop it will go back to the start of the 5th bar, so do I match it to the 5th bar of the out going track?

Haven’t really used my filters much. I like the way the EQ’s sound more.

I am still working out various mixing styles. I love to mix in key and I am now using my EQ’s. I use my volume fader’s instead of my crossfader. I’m just trying to develop my style and get comfortable with it before heading out. Thanks for the advice.

Phil, i used your How to Digital DJ Fast and it helped me so much!!! Thank you!! My question is when do you feel is the best time to bring in a new tune? I don’t want to lose any energy I have built up. I have not played out yet.(only been Djing 3 months) but I want to have a good sense of what I am doing before I do.

Thank you both. I will try ising them today. I play mostly house and progressive house and I like to keep the transitions as smooth as possible. I don’t do any scratching at all. So when using the volume faders, what level do you bring the incoming track on?

Thank you so much. That is one of the most helpful tips that I have been given. I am going to give that a shot. How do I find their email addresses? I am not into sharing or stealing music. I believe in supporting the artists and producers. Thanks again for your help.

Thank you both for your help. I am going to try both ways. I understand that some songs don’t work together. I am only using two decks. As far as which a songs I am playing its usually with trance songs of around 132 bpms or higher. They have lots of sounds going on and I am just trying to keep that same energy going with the next track.

Then: Arrive early and start with a small gig, like a house party.
Arrive early and prepare your DJ booth to make it as comfy as you can and play a little bit before people arrive so you break the ice with yourself 😉
Have one of the following drinks (if you are legal to do so hehe) but ONLY ONE of those:
Either a Campari Orange, Small Vodka Martini, Cuba Libre or a small sip of Ron Barcelo Imperial
This is not to make you drunk (hence ONLY ONE) but to relax you a bit. Stay away from coffeine…
    Drink plenty of water.
When the people come in, just start playing and feel the mood.
    HAVE FUN and RELAX!

This is about sharing. Everybody makes mistakes, if you make one just go on and keep on HAVING FUN and RELAX.
Things also can go wrong, just make due, go on and keep on HAVING FUN and RELAX.

That is really great advice. As a new DJ I feel that I will be going thriugh that myself.
