I go for the music. I don’t know another MP3 store that has such a great collection of deep and funky house. Even Beatport can’t compare in that area.
Absolutely, couldn’t have put it better myself! 🙂 It is THE site for Soulful/Deep/Funky House, hands down. Probably why I love it so! 😉
backtothefrontParticipantWarm & Sunny UK Summer evening til the following Sunrise, middle of the South West countryside, 10K rig, camping, bbq’s, open fires, friends and like minded individuals, Soulful/Deep House, odd bit of Trance later, finish off with some proper chillout at Sunrise… jobs a good ‘un… 🙂 Otherwise, small, underground club, 300 clued up people max, deep house all the way…
backtothefrontParticipantFunny thing is Traxsource had a facelift a couple of years ago, but once used to the look, I find it really easy and quick to navigate and find tracks.
backtothefrontParticipantWill the new MacBooks have USB2.0 capability, if not it’s a killer for most NI hardware?

These are all superstar DJs, many of them have been around for years and also own record labels. Electronic music (trance in particular) is absolutely massive in much of Europe and Asia.
Indeed, I don’t mind a bit of trance at all and you’re right to point out how big it is. The big boys of trance all have a huge worldwide radio prescence, Armin’s ASOT goes out to dozens and dozens of countries on FM alone, not to mention online radio stations. He’s also got a massive empire of a record label. And as you say many of the top 15 have been there from the start back in the mid-late 80s and are still at the pinnacle so I suppose they’ve picked up the odd pay packet along the way. I’m surprised by a couple of entries who are relative newcomers on the block but I guess a big tune or two gets you lucrative remix work and a lot of royalties, also the big rise in popularity of certain forms of dance music in the US has helped, as the market is obviously huge.

All Beatport has is crap commercial electro or tech house thats all the same. The genre tags are way off all the time too.
Yep, agree with this, my experience too.
D-Jam, post: 22002, member: 3 wrote: I still find goodies on BP, but I don’t live on the site.
Traxsource has become my more favorite site. Plenty of great house…plus the idea of putting the Facebook comment system is gold. So I can post a comment as my Facebook page, it posts on my page (content/engagement) and it might also lead to more likes by those who find my comments on Traxsource.
Totally agree D-Jam, I find Traxsource great to use, quick to find new releases/promos and the genre tagging is spot on almost all the time.

Well said, I’ve completely given up on Beatport now, so much chaff thrown at you to start with and requires quite a bit of digging around to get to the ‘good stuff’ IMO. Traxsource/Juno much better.
backtothefrontParticipantI’ve got 2.5 running with the S4, a few bugs, which seem to be fairly common from reading other users’ experiences although my biggest problem is the huge increase in memory use, 2.0.3 used approx 80-90BMB RAM, 2.5 450MB RAM+.
backtothefrontParticipantSoulful & Deep House in the main but also Nu Disco thrown in as well, also old school house/rave/d&b from time to time.

Most likely the old catalog stuff was mass encoded for iTunes and Amazon years ago and probably using older technology. I used to work at big media websites and mass digitizations like this were usually outsourced to a variety of smaller companies.
I’m sure iTunes/Amazon VBR’s are better than the semi-legit Russian mp3 sites, but they may not have the extensive back catalog the Russians ones do. Amazon was definitely missing a lot of old YMO tracks.
If there’s another legit source for 80s/90s dance tracks it’d be good to know. A Beatport for old dance music would be great. And yes, I might be getting a little to anal-retentive here. 🙂
Totally agree, if one of the online retailers really went in to high quality, digital versions of ‘old school’ dance music, they could do very well out of it. I wonder if a lot of the music has been ‘deleted’ at music publishers, and although the masters and copyright are still intact, this may be part of the reason it’s not readily available. Having said that I’ve noticed more and more classic house is appearing on Traxsource. For me, getting hold of old school in a digital format is partly laziness in taking time to rip vinyl and also hoping a digital copy may be have been remastered.
backtothefrontParticipantHi James, cool, cheers. I’ll be in touch this evening.
backtothefrontParticipantI’ve similar frustrations whilst ripping my vinyl and not really found a proper solution other than getting the outro spot on to make mixing out simpler and then riding the pitch and/or jog wheel to mix the track in. If only NI would work on flexible beatgrids instead of remix decks for Traktor I’d be a happy chap.
backtothefrontParticipantHi James,
Sounds a good shindig! I live in Dorset (approx 50 mins from New Milton), I’ll stick my hand up to be considered by your goodselves 🙂 I’ll contact you via FB.
Bit of background: main style: Soulful/Deep House but also play UK Garage (97-00 era) and old school house/trance (early-mid 90’s). Been DJing since early-mid 90’s, have had several residencies including a couple of my own nights. Experienced on Technics and Kontrol S4. I play out for the joy and fun of it these days (free parties, friends nights etc) due to family/work committments.
All the best,
BTTF
