BrandenParticipant
Screw this I’m selling all my equipment I don’t care I will just sell all my stuff, lights, everything. I have put too much money into something I am just getting showed up in by professionals.
BrandenParticipantWhy would somebody set me, an amateur, up with a professional who plays big name clubs in Vegas and LA? How fair is this?
BrandenParticipantWhy did he go first? Why did I bring my equipment just for him to play on it the rest of the night? Why do I even do this? Why do I spend all my hard earned cash on this just for professionals to steal my opportunities away?
October 2, 2013 at 6:52 am in reply to: More advanced transition techniques and creative tweaks to add more style to my hip hop mix? #44907BrandenParticipantI have used GarageBand to create loops from several different hip-hop songs to spice things up a bit. I scratch as much as I can (but without making it annoying or excessive). Scratching in and out of songs is fun and pretty cool, but what are some sample ideas?

That second part of my last post I made toward Chuck was meant for you. All those acapellas included in your link had low qualities, like sub-200 KBPS, and I need at least 320 KBPS or better!

Lol, you’re so silly. Silly. Silly. Silly.
By the way, I went to that website and all the qualities of the acapellas are really low. : I need 320 KBPS or better. I settle only for high quality.
September 30, 2013 at 5:26 am in reply to: Where to get GOOD acapellas for good club-style music? #44808BrandenParticipantLet’s face it, most people, at least in college-type environments and whatnot, young people clubs and stuff, want music about partying and smashin females (trying to stay professional here).
September 28, 2013 at 8:34 pm in reply to: Numark NS6 vs. Terminal Mix 4? Which one should I purchase? #44763BrandenParticipantYeah, this guy I know has an NS6 and he’s a fantastic DJ, but he has only had the machine for less than a year and when he wanted me to demonstrate on it, the jog-wheels weren’t working (we tried EVERYTHING, they were broken), it doesn’t have ‘Sample’ buttons and it’s limited to ONE FX knob (wouldn’t be so much a big deal if it at least had an LP/HP filter).

What controller/software do you use, which laptop, soundcard… give us some more info.I figured it out, I increased the buffer size earlier and it created problems for some reason. Turned it back down to half-way now it’s not effing up any more.

Yeah I eventually had to do the same thing.

I’m really mad and we all start somewhere, and this dude just hated on me publically!

– Take one small shot or a single beer before you begin (you should not be drunk, just to loosen up)
– DJ with a setlist you feel comfy with and which you know you can mix well
– Be confident in your abilities
– Never hesitate, if you do then do it
– Never panic
– Have a good time and work with the people/guest to have a good timeNow for the downside:
The most important rule: YOU WILL MAKE MISTAKES
Everyone does. The key is to not panic and not hesitate to clean up. You missed a cue and the beat is off, hit the filter or an F/X, stutter effect or whatever to play this over and just make it look as natural as you can.
You will not be judged for some mistakes, people will only get pissed if you end up with a breakdown, excuse to them and they have to wait for 40seconds for the music to continue. If you miss that cue, make a backspin and hit the next track, wave your arms to it and make it look natural, they will be forgiving. And last but not least:
Have a few “plan B” songs. Tracks you are 100% sure everyone likes, real bangers and hold them in reserve. If you read some tension in the crowd and if some get uneasy, play a song with low energy and then hit one of those plan B songs after 30seconds and wave your arms and scream… make them want to dance and win them back that way.I still do it that way after more than 20 years and it works like a charm.
Thanks, Terry! I am also working with a couple of other DJ’s, but they are the ones warming up and I’m the one playing at peak hours. This post actually made me feel a lot more confident, really. Thank you so much.
