  • in reply to: How can I organise my Electronic Library without iTunes #2118701

    Itunes is still free.

And from what I’ve read online, I haven’t seen anything about windows media player importing to Serato, but have seen a lot for itunes. Including playlist imports. Plus, if you want your collection organized by artist/album on the drive itself, then Itunes will actually do that for you. (at least it used to. It did that to me)

I have actually read those articles, I just haven’t watched the videos yet. I will though, as one of my goals is to be able to create my own remixes, mash-ups and whatnot.

in reply to: Bag for Pioneer DDJ SB Controller #2118601

I don’t have a bag yet, but I too have the DDJ-SB and I was looking at getting this UDG bag. I’ve researched and this one says (on another site) that the DDJ-SB will fit in it.

    @terry
I LOLed at that! I jokingly thought similar when it comes to drummers, but I know the truth being a drummer myself.

I understand all of that. I think the part that pretty much ticked me off was that it kinda felt like he was telling me ‘what you are doing right now is nothing’ and saying that I should be producing music (which I’m not ready for yet. I’m still learning the features on my DDJ-SB). I also kinda conflict a bit with people who have a bit of an ego, and he’s one of em.

I know it’s all about the music. About 5 years ago, I actually DJ’d at my dad’s retirement party, and I didn’t have a controller or even a DJ program then. All I had was my laptop with Itunes, and a speaker system. I just created a couple of playlists and yeah, I did just press play, but everyone still had fun regardless.

(I am the OP, I just got my original account working again)

in reply to: What's your favourite online store for buying DJ music? #2107821

I mostly use Itunes and Amazon for my regular music, but for anything like game remixes (I plan to play at a gaming convention) I go to a website called http://www.ocremix.org. All the remixes are actually free there.

in reply to: Winter Gloves (outdoor gig) #2106571

In case that doesn’t work out, maybe the isotoner smartouch gloves might? They are all leather, I have them and they are pretty warm. Never did an outdoor gig before (haven’t had a gig yet actually) but it’s at least another option.

in reply to: Help me choose a FIRST Controller :)!! #2106151

I’m still new to the game as well, but from what I’ve heard others say, it comes down to personal preference, and it is a good idea to read the controller guide from this site in order to get a feel for the features that each one has.

From what I know (which still isn’t too much ATM) most of the entry controllers are pretty similar in features. Personally, I have the DDJ-SB. I went with it because I happened to find one of the limited red ones, and I liked the color for it being the same price as the standard.

in reply to: What are my chances, or what do I do? #2102911

Detroit is still a good 30 miles from where I am. There are only sports bars by me, and from the looks of things, they don’t have DJs. Just bands, and while I am a self taught drummer as well, I have no group to speak of (that’s not DJing anyway).

I guess the main reason I never went to clubs is that I am self conscious (as I’m not a very good dancer), and I don’t (rather can’t) drink. Not to mention that the only friend who actually lives near me is not a club type. She wouldn’t go. The group that I mentioned only gets together every once in a while. I henestly, wouldn’t really know what to do in a club. I’d be the lame-o over in the corner that just sits there and doesn’t drink.

And if I DJed outside of the gaming scene, I’d probably choose a different name, as I wouldn’t really want a gaming background to hinder my chances.

I’m not trying to simply give excuses, I’m just explaining my reasons. I can’t help but wonder if I should just be a hobbyist with this because of my situation.

Sweet! thanks for the help. now I know how I can budget things to make this a reality!

in reply to: What are my chances, or what do I do? #2097931

I might see about that. I’ll have to see what clubs I have near my area. I’d rather not head to the nearest big city, as that is Detroit, MI(not a very good area for those who don’t know).

in reply to: What are my chances, or what do I do? #2096601

I don’t mind variety (I like a lot of different types of music too). I just have to make a choice. I’m gone quite a bit during the week between my job, and the fact that I’m a martial artist, and I even do work for the dojo on Saturdays. Saturday would be my only possible night.

Not only that, but I’m a very shy person. In all reality, I’m 28 years old, and have never been to a nightclub in my life. I just don’t know what I would be getting into is all.

HD space is no issue. I would like to go into production eventually, but for that I plan to use my Gateway One all in one(500GB) with a 1 TB external HD.

I would simply just rather not take the all in one for anything. 23 inches is far to large for a basic setup, and she really hasn’t had any issues with it. maybe she got a good one or something. I dunno.

Though, I have also been told in the past that my Compaq Presario laptop would only last 3 years at the most, and it still runs 9 years later.

in reply to: Speakers for house party #2095791

    This helps a lot.

Actually from looking up pricing, the LDs are actually more expensive than the Nanos for me. I found the Dave 12s (can’t find any 10s) for $1,000 while the Nano 300 is $700. Also, I can’t seem to find anywhere that sells the 600s in US currency. It seems as those might be out of my reach, but the 300 is still an option.

Now I know what to look for. Thanks!

I’m trying to figure out what PA system to save up for. since I plan for travel, which includes having to walk to some locations, I get the feeling that I’ll need a self enclosed system. I’ve got it narrowed to 2 but I don’t know which to try and see about getting. I’m also open to other suggestions, given that the price isn’t too high.

    Behringer EPA300 – http://www.zzounds.com/item–BEHEPA300
    Fender Passport Event (also 300W) – http://www.zzounds.com/item–FEN6946000

I’ve got a low budget, and am just starting out, but I don’t plan to have these for larger groups. We are talking 30 tops.

There is where an issue may lie. I live in a small town and we really only have 1 sports bar, and I know no one here (also, my underground EDM isn’t well known in this area). Also, just in my area alone there are at least 10 wedding DJ services already. I don’t really know if I COULD DJ for profit where I live.

I might have a chance at getting a used Toshiba Satellite series with 4 GB and a pretty good size hard drive (500GB). My friend might be getting a new PC for christmas, and I offered to buy her old one. We’ll see though.

Also, I am the OP but for some reason I can’t log into that account anymore. Had to create a second one.
