    Is it your intention to use the RX with the iOS version of RB? On an iPad?

    Or do you just want to use the iPad to prep your collection?

    Since re-digitizing can be done by various software in an automated fashion meaning a one time action and a while for your computer to process, it could be a good plan to go ahead and put everything on 256AAC if you want to stick with the Apple ecosystem and avoid all problems.

    I think the list shows the file formats that the XDJ-RX supports when using RB-prepared sticks and as such AIFF should not be a problem as it is listed on the compatibility list.

    While I normally agree with Terry (and do as to the general quality issues with low-end gear), since you said you are getting a signal (sound) when you plug in directly to your speakers (tell us your brand/type please and how you connect them, what kind of cable, what input as in mic/line), that suggests that the mics are working as they are supposed to, but something else is going wrong.

    Since you haven’t told us what you are inputting the mics into (mixer, controller, what channels, what connectors/cables), it is very hard to help you troubleshoot the issue. So if you can come back to us with that info we may be able to help you a bit better.

    Hi Dan,

    Welcome to the forums! Looking forward to your contributions and perhaps butting heads occasionally on old versus new skool LOL (Terry was being nice with 20+ years, at age 53 I am getting close to my 40 year anniversary on the decks next year).

    Sorry m8, can’t help you with that one. Don’t have an NV to test with.

    I stand corrected.

    Frankly, unless you are 100% sure that RekordBox DJ is right for you, the DDJ-SX2 would be the better bet. It will work with RekordBox DJ (although you don’t get the software with it, you get Serato with it), but it will work with various other software as well. DDJ-RX will only work with RekordBox, so if you don’t like RB DJ, you are up the proverbial creek.

    Depending on genre and such they can very well stick in a small bpm range. They could also be hitting sync! You CAN sync with Nexus gear after all 😀

    Even if you vary only slightly (say +/- 2 bpm (boring)), you would still need to use the jogs and pitch to get things right imho.

    Clearly I wasn’t there, so can’t say for sure.

    in reply to: Where to set cue points? #2473551

    Cue points are no more or less than reminders in a track for specific spots/events that YOU think could be useful to YOU. As such it depends highly on the kind of DJ you are, the kind of music you play and the kind of mixes you want to make.

    You can set at the beginning of breaks, where the vocals start, at the end of a lengthy and boring intro or even the introduction of a nice instrument bit that you want to use somewhere.

    There really isn’t a guideline to placing your cue points imho, because it’s so highly personal.

    Personally I know most tracks I play regularly to such an extent that I really know what is where in the track. I usually just needle drop to a point I need and cue up. So I usually only set cue points on new tracks. When I listen to them after adding them to my DJ software (max. 5 -10 new tracks a month in my case), I decide what points are interesting to me and drop a cue point.

    One thing I sometimes do is drop a cue point at the END of a section where I need something else to happen, like ending a mix or starting a mix. This way the cue point just acts as a visual reminder in my waveform that something is coming up.

    Had a pair but sold them. I never really got used to the jogs. But boy where they great players for the money.

    in reply to: Pioneer DD-sb2, rb or Mixtrack pro 3? #2471571

    We could only list features on the controllers you mention, as what is pro or con is up to you. Something I might like and think a huge pro might be a con for you or vice versa. So, we can’t make your decision for you. Also there is a perfectly good controller buyers guide available for free from the main site, with reviews done on all newly launched controllers. In short, there is plenty of information there.

    Assuming you are not interested in Traktor, our controller shortlist for starters would look something like this (in no particular order):
    * Pioneer DDJ-SB2 (Serato)
    * Pioneer DDJ-RB( RekordBox DJ)
    * Numakr Mixtrack Pro (Serato)
    * Numark Mixtrack Platinum (Serato)
    * Denon MC-2000 (Serato)
    * Reloop Beatmix 2 mk2

    With the RB you buy into the RekordBox DJ ecosystem and give up options of using anything else. All the Serato controllers will let you use Virtual DJ, DJay Pro (Mac only), Mixvibes Cross and such and even iPad DJ software. And if you are not sure which software is gonna be right for you, even if you want to go Pioneer, I’d go for the SB2 as it will work with RekordBox DJ but still give you the option to switch software should you want to.

    Try looking up some of the articles on these forums on starter controller choice. We have a pretty simple “stepping stone” approach that starts with determining your (intended/desired) workflow, then picking the software that most closely matches that workflow, then setting a budget, shortlisting 2 or 3 controllers, getting some hands-on if possibly and finally picking your “weapon” of choice. Follow those steps and the process becomes more manageable in our humble opinion.

    Lots of features, as said, become pro or con depending on your specific needs. If, for example, you like manual beatmatching and/or playing around with pitch and such, good jogs and long pitch faders become important, whereas when you intend to do most of your stuff using sync, pitch faders lose a lot of their importance. Or if you are gonna being doing all kinds of cue and loop playing or slicing or live remixing, then the presence, number, quality and location of your performance pads becomes an issue. If you intend to go do mobile gigs, having a mic channel and the way it works is something you want look at. If you plan on moving your controller around a lot in your backpack, build quality will be much more important than when it sits on your desk in your bedroom forever. And I can go on. When you follow the steps you will most likely narrow it down to 2, maybe 3 controllers that will actually all be best fit for YOU and from there on it’s a matter of personal taste.

    Not quite sure what you are referring to. All DJ software let’s you change the tempo of a track to match whatever you are mixing in or out to. What is it you want to edit? If you are talking about editing the beatgrid, with the exception of Traktor, most DJ software is pretty good at handling beatgrid on old manually drummed material and has the option to edit the grids manually should the software get it wrong.

    The advice from DDJT has always been to have two totally separate collections. Your DJ stuff in one, all the rest in the other. Luckily it is very easy to start iTunes with an option to create/use alternate collections. By determining where you keep your music yourself (rather than letting iTunes move your tracks to a default place) you should keep at least your DJ tracks in an easy to find/manage place.

    Think there has been an article on the main site about this a while back. Suggest using the search option there.
