D. DodgeParticipant
Thanks Terry, you’ve always got the answers. The foam makes sense for the regular cases, the ones with the sliding laptop stand must have a piece of foam to put between the sliding board and the controller during transportation?
Sweet, I figured there was a way to do it, time to go play
D. DodgeParticipantI do a lot of live sound and Terry said everything I would’ve said.
If you have 12″ tops, I would bring those – but I’m sure you’re like most of us and only have 1 set.
If nobody is plugging into your mixer, then you shouldn’t have to worry about effects which makes things a little easier. They might request some reverb, but I don’t think that amp has any built in. If anybody decides to use their own mic and it’s a condensor mix, remember your phantom power. I know this stuff is basic but some dj’s don’t know. Have fun!D. DodgeParticipantYep, linking the two Revo’s is pretty cool!
Chuck, where are these decent priced LeMaitre haze machines? The cheapest I found was $1200… I got 2 moving heads for less than that. I really really really need to buy a haze machine but the cheap chauvet hurricane haze 2D doesn’t seem reliable, and the 3D doesn’t have any reviews.
D. DodgeParticipantMy first purchase after some wash lights was the ADJ quad phase hp. I got it open box for $150. Even though I’m not usually a fan of moving dot lights, this looks awesome with haze. With or without dmx it has some great programs. Plus, it can have the mirror ball effect for slow songs.
As stated above, the Revo III is a great light (even better if you have two linked together).
D. DodgeParticipantAwesome, those are 2 of the speakers I’ve been looking at. The Roland really seems great, but then I love the fact I can get 2 Samson’s for less than 1 Roland. Seems like the Roland is more for a street performer – ability to plug a lot in at once.
Tough decision. I really hope I can find these somewhere to listen to
D. DodgeParticipantI really hope you’re giving these subs a listen before pulling the trigger on purchasing. I’m not sure where you found negative reviews on the Mackie sub but either way, the Yamaha DSR118 is a killer sub as well (same price as Mackie). I have NEVER needed more bass than a single DSR118. Unless you’re doing gymnasium and larger gigs on a consistent basis, I don’t know why you’d need more power. As much as I love mine, if I could go back I’d actually get to yamaha 15″ subs just so I could pole mount both speakers above them.
You’ve gotta think about the look of your setup as well. When there’s no room to put the sub in front of my facade, I’ve had people ask “why is there an extra speaker on that side”. Just throwing it out there. Good luckD. DodgeParticipant99% of the time I agree with you Terry – but I know there are some great battery PA’s out there. My other job used to have 2 ruggedized anchor speakers and they worked fantastic outdoors for over 4 hours, however they’re about 1.5k a piece and were designed for much bigger applications than I need. I don’t need an amazing system to play 20 mins worth of music tops (most of which is instrumental and has no low end)
I guess I’ll take a good look on ebay and craigslist
D. DodgeParticipantThe Cuelux software looks awesome, except that it’s close to 500 euro, and my budget is more like 200 euro. The upcoming cuety sounds closer to my budget, I’m confused that it’s cheaper even though it’s wireless. I don’t have an ipad though (I’m completely anti-apple) but could hopefully load it on my smaller laptop.
D. DodgeParticipantHaha ya the sunglasses were part of the wedding – all the groomsmen had them.
As for tables, I have my own much smaller table/booth that I always use except they specifically asked me to set up at that spot with their table — Sure, whatever makes you happy. I do like the looks of those booths with a white section to put an uplight behind. The velcro tubes you mentioned (GREAT IDEA), got a picture or link? I’ve seen velcro cloth tubes before designed for computer networking cables but I can’t find them online.
D. DodgeParticipantThose are indeed great lights, but $300 more per light than what I really want to spend… I need to get some big gigs lined up!
D. DodgeParticipantVery well, Yamaha it is, thanks man.
Now if I could just decide on two moving heads (intimidator 250 or inno spot 50w led). I’m surprised there aren’t any videos comparing the 2 since they’re so similar.
D. DodgeParticipantI’ve never had EQ issues with only a high and low (as lost as there’s a master graphic EQ). I used to use the last couple channels for rhythm guitar or chorus singers — things that won’t need much change.
For those who have mixers with compression on each channel, did you use it very often? How about the USB I/O? USB sounds like it would be great for recording, except that you can only record as a single track instead of multi-track.
Debating between something like the Yamaha MG124 or Behringer XENYX x1622USB.Back to the Yamaha vs EV, if you like the sound of EV’s that’s cool — I just wanted to give a first hand comparison of the two since I wasn’t able to do so before purchasing.
D. DodgeParticipantYou are 100% correct.
I’m about to buy a Yamaha mixer for when we do live music with bands, can’t go wrong with Yamaha.
D. DodgeParticipantI used to have a wide plastic tub and I lined it with some gray foam, cut out the shapes of the lights and it worked wonders.
On the lines of this picture:

except a big plastic case and big square/round cut-outs.D. DodgeParticipantWell to me a SM85 is a cheap mic 😉
I guess I’ve gotta buy some parts for this project
