MOAR FISTPUMPING
MOAR SIMPLE SONGS THAT ALL SOUND THE SAMEDaryl NorthropParticipantOuch! Feel you pain on this one. Back in the day, I played a regular night at a midwest club. Played lots of 808 state, lords of acid, information society, that sort of stuff (it was in the early 90’s). Drunk girl yells up to the booth “CAN YOU PLAY SOME BLACKBOX???” No sweety, not happening.
Daryl NorthropParticipantLooking forward to it! See you there.
Daryl NorthropParticipantMy $0.02 worth is that it also depends on the venue. If you are DJ’ing at a “DJ concert” at a large venue – echostage in the DC area comes to mind, and you are opening for a big-name DJ, then definitely follow a tighter set of rules and don’t “peak” the floor before the headliner.
However, if you one of the DJ’s at a more traditional bar/nightclub, then you have more leeway. Most patrons are not there to dance the entire night, they want to socialize with their friends, get drunk, etc. So a “waves” concept might be more appropriate for each DJ. Start out their set with some slower stuff, peak towards the middle/end, then lay down some transition tracks for the next person. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I went to this “top40s” club on the weekend for my Girlfriends birthday…and my god it was just brutal. Yes everyone there was dressed nice, the venue was really nice…and the people there were well ya know the typical puffed up chests, girls too snobby for their own good, and bouncers that looked like they just finished their last roid injection 4 minutes before they showed up.
Now as for the DJ…I cant even call him that…this guy was freakin brutal so brutal…Lets start down the list:
First off he was wearing Beats -1
He tried to mix…but i dont think he has ever used an EQ before… -1
Bouncing from Rap to American House, to Rap…like every 2nd track -1
30 Second cuts of songs so there was ZERO flow -1Now It just pains me to watch guys like this spin for an entire night…Im assuming he hardly makes any cash because i have never heard of this guy or even seen him play at any other venue.
But this is where we have the division between Top40 and Underground, as D-jam stated 😀
The whole 30 seconds of a song thing just baffles me. Did every DJ get adhd and no one is getting treated for it? When I play a track, it gets at least 3 minutes, enough to let the melody, beat, and feel develop.
Whipping from track to track is just being mean to the dancefloor. Sadly, few of them realize they are being abused.

–The date for the show is set to February 14th, 2013.
Valentine’s Day EDM show seems to have potential.–2 acts confirmed, still looking for 2 more.
We’re looking to have a diverse style between DJs to represent a spectrum of electronic music.–In 2 weeks, if you can commit to a little promotion/the show,
We need to set our acts in stone, so there’s a two-week deadline on finalizing the lineup/working out order-of-performance/style. If you are interested, send an email to discipleofnietzsche@gmail.com–Next Step:
After the 2 week period, we will be working on promotions. Promotions may involve clubbing, dj busking at various campuses/hot spots, flyering, and some open mic appearances. Promotions will be on-going until the show, and it is not expected to show up to every promotion. Busking promotion will be paid (completely evenly split tips) and the show is a commission-based gig.–Final Step
Making final touches to really throw a memorable gig and talking about stage set-up.We’ll keep in touch.
Great idea! Would love to help if I could. I have been dj’ing since the early 90’s, and have been digital for the past few years. Looking for outlets in the DC area (I live in northern VA). I play DnB, breaks, electro, dubstep, industrial, and more. My mixes are here: https://soundcloud.com/dnorthrop
Daryl NorthropParticipantGreat track!

I guess my next step is to try to ship it back to novation. It’s covered under their 1yr manufacturers warranty. However, if they send it back saying “it worked fine for them” I’ll probably have to go with a different brand of mixer. We’ll see what happens.

Seems to be localized to the right deck on the player. Will supply this info to the novation folks. Hopefully they have some ideas. This sucks for it to have worked just fine for nearly 2 months and then just crap out on me.
December 4, 2012 at 1:29 am in reply to: Novation twitch problems – touchstrips stopped working, etc #33094Daryl NorthropParticipantThank you! I’ll give those a try. Will let you know how it goes.
December 4, 2012 at 12:43 am in reply to: Repeated NS7FX MIDI dropouts during use, not resolvable via updates/optimization #33089Daryl NorthropParticipantVery similar problem, and I think we have the same laptop (I have an HP dv7 also) see thread – http://digitaldjtips.com/forum/threads/novation-twitch-problems-touchstrips-stopped-working-etc.7230/
Daryl NorthropParticipantPretty much the same thing happened to me. I’ve had my twitch for 2 months, and everything was great. Then 2 days ago, the touchstrips fail, other random buttons stop working, etc. I’ve changed nothing on my laptop. Seriously. What’s the deal?
Daryl NorthropParticipantSchoolly D, Young MC (not just his “bust a move” song), Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick – all are good crowd movers.

But I’ve quit using MDT because of various reasons, among them the biggest one is the quality of the video/audio. Right now I’m using vjstream.tv which is actually a project of us 3 ppl who met on mdt. We develop the whole thing for fun and not as a commercial site. HQ video/audio and recording/publishing the sets.
Ofc I do use mixify for the B2B events (the one that Si BooGie mentioned above). Thanks for the heads up!
