Hmmm…Maybe I’ll be creative and do it in Morse Code.

Yeah, I noticed no one really does it for there Soundcloud mix. Perhaps just putting info in the metatags will do.

    Also this:

One of the things I discovered early on was to have enough music to move up (or down) in small changes in BPM. Back before Keylocking a track digitally I’d absolutely hate the sound of a track sped up or slowed down dramatically.

Before I DJ’d I was an avid club goer, dancing my arse off 3 nights a week. The only time I looked towards the DJ booth was when the DJ messed up or played some lame song, otherwise I was too busy dancing and having fun. When I see these videos of thousands of people pretty much standing still staring up at the superstar DJ…I don’t get it. At any rate I have fun whilst DJing, I’m dancing in the booth. As for adding FX and samples and such I do it in moderation. Too it’s OK to chill for a bit, sip a beer, think about where you wanna go next, eyeball some ladies on the dancefloor.

Twitter like any online social media all you need is a computer and internet access. Hmm…I wonder if someone came up with a Morse Code to Twitter converter yet for people in rural areas.

1st and foremost, mixing two songs of significantly different tempos, pick songs that are in a similar key or have some similar musical qualities. From there, from my understanding of Trap and Dubstep, work off the build/break and perhaps use some crazy effects. Radically switching genres I think it’s OK to “announce” the change up. Mash up the Electro track into a big build then drop the Trap or Dubstep. Forget pitch shifting to blend, you’re not going from Deep House to Techno you are completely changing the pace of the room. Also I’ve herd of some Electro tracks that have a Dubstep like break in the middle which you can use as a transition.

Also wanted to ask, if I had a regular twitter account for regular life stuff should I consider a new twitter account just for my DJ related tweets?

Here’s some fun: Go to Google apps and get partycloud and/or Until AM and try your hand at DJ mixes in your Chrome browser. You should be able to find some interesting songs. I think Until AM can draw songs from Soundcloud. Makes me wonder if cloud based DJing will make it’s way into clubs. Also if you want to noodle making music in your browser (perfect time killer at work) try AudioSauna. All free browser based.

By the way I just discovered that if you want to save a few $$$ and are a fan of Toolroom Records just go diect to their website to buy their tracks. It’s like 1/2 price of beatport. In fact, I often collect tracks in carts on beatport then hunt to see if it’s cheaper elsewhere. As I buy exclusive aiff or wav it helps to hunt around.

Anyone can “release” a track without proper mastering. However I think if you want to be professional, do your track justice, hope to sell it and/or get it played in clubs it should be properly mastered. That’s my opinion. I suppose you can do a rough mix, post it on Soundcloud, and hope some label picks it up for mastering and distribution. There should be something like a kickstarter for producers to raise funds for mastering, that be cool.

On a side, it’s apparent that dance music perhaps more than any other genre is victim of the loudness wars. I think it’s up to producers and labels to join the revolution of bringing more dynamic range back into music: http://turnmeup.org/. Too I’ve noticed new digital releases ripped from vinyl which is like…”Huh, what?” As well as some producers going a bit too heavy on distortion/saturation effects on the master bus and/or sounding overly compressed and even sounding like it’s clipping.

Yeah perhaps in that section. Like recently I was looking for Minimal, Tech-House or Techno 120-123BPM in Emin. I do a lot of Mix-In-Key so I often look for the gaps in my library as I run up and down musically in 5ths.

Thanks for the input. I have a domain which gives me a single page I can put links on so I linked up to my social media sites. I ordered 100 cards from VistaPrint for less than $20 which has all my links and email address. I still gotta do the actual mix for Soundcloud. As for promo CD’s, funny thing is I think most people just use iPods, their phones or computers for music these days. Not sure if promo CDs is better than just the link to the mix. By the way, I’m thinking of making the mix not for download simply because well…I paid money for the music and people download it and the artist gets nothing from their song in the mix…Doesn’t seem right. Yet, I know this is what DJs do…I dunno. At any rate I need to work on the bio next.

So the extra features of Soundcloud Pro aint worth it for me at the moment? Also there’s a local club has an “open decks” night I was gonna go to, hence I was thinking of promo cards to hand out.

Funny cause they all come from the same pack. In fact sometimes it’s the same beat just with added elements like HH or a bass line and some will take and others no.
