This is exactly what I’ve been looking for, monitor speakers in this budget range. Saves me from making a new thread 😛
snooze92, did you order the M-audio model? Is it any good?madmanParticipantYeah but I don’t like it, I think this is a really stupid bug. I mean, did the use a different programmer for each deck who didn’t consult each ther? lol
I like to keep the gain in neutral so it’s easier to adjust when I want more or less gain in a song, I don’t want it to go the right and become the new neutralmadmanParticipantof course I don’t wanna make the club lose its license, and I’m always careful getting the attitude not to much agressive… however sometimes people let me know they wanna leave with a few good bangers
madmanParticipant320kbs MP3’s are no problem at all, I think around 90% of my music collection is in that file format. I don;t think you can hear a difference between that and lossless audio formats. I only use wav files when I use it in a remix that I’m making, but that’s only for when I slow down th tempo with more than 25% or so.
October 12, 2012 at 2:12 pm in reply to: What's your biggest tip for DJs using PA systems for the first time? #1013501madmanParticipantI once had to DJ at a big gig, it was the celebration of the anniversary of the club. I had DJ’ed there before, so I was pretty confident. I pluggede everything in, faded out the music that was on the club’s jukebox and faded in my music. Complete silence. I quickly faded the jukebox back in. Being very confused, I checked all he wiring and everything was correct. I then tried plugging my RCA into the cue, with the idea that I wasn’t going to be able to use cue that night for I’d have to keep it on program all night. However, still nothing. Now I’m starting to get nervous. The club owner was depending on me on getting this party going. I then found out that someone had pressed before I arrived some buttons on the PA system which caused it to only use my music as a ue on its system. I quickly pushed the button off and there was finally sound. After on and a half hour I took a quick break by putting a song on the jukebox so I could switch thecables again so I could use my cue without anone hearing it. For the rest it was a great night with a packed dancefloor so I left after the gig with a good feeling 🙂
madmanParticipantheheh, looks really cool. Ready for take off!

well written, and some good suggestions for dj drop studios, might purchase a drop 🙂

Sounds really cool, do you have a picture of it?
madmanParticipantanother thing might be your usb ports? A lot of laptops ship with USB 3.0 ports, while nearly all digital DJ controllers work with USB 2.0. Not that I know a lot about it, but I heard a lot of people have issues with this.
madmanParticipantdid you check the settings if all inputs, outputs and soundcard are correct?
madmanParticipantIt often focuses most on the first part, that’s why these ‘DJ friendly’ tracks with a beat intro before the song actually starts can come in handy.
If you want to determine the bpm of the part it doesn’t do correctly, maybe you could cut out the part you want to analyse using Audacity and then analyse that part in VDJ (not to be done live obviously). Not a perfect solution, but at least then you know what bpm the part is you wanted to know and hopefully you can mix it manually then.madmanParticipantIf people simply wont dance I either take a golden classic or if there is at that moment any insane hit (like now Gangnam Style) I’ll play that. Has never failed me
madmanParticipantYeah you’re right. For example, just yesterday I found out that still not all of my music was there; appearantly, Serato doesn’t support wma files. Having transitioned just recently from VDJ to Itch I can understand that people think Itch has a more pro look, but if you look at VDJ it has way more options concerning mapping, file support (I never had a single music file that VDJ couldn’t read), and other customizations.
However I have to stick with Itch because wheneer I use VDJ at gigs, I always get witty comments and with Serato that simply dissapeared (and I must say that Serato Itch has a better and flexible beat grid).
I think DJ Intro is a shame, a lot of companies are making 4 channel controllers now but that’s useless with Intro.madmanParticipantIt’s very wise to build up, creating a tension that’s building up through out the night. I also find that when the night is just getting started it’s better to play calmer music then the music that’s planned for when the dancefloor is packed: people are getting in, wanna have a chat with their friends and have some drinks before the club is full.
I guess it depends per venue owner. Don’t be affraid to ask them what they’d like you to play or what their audience likes.Don’t worry about not being a clubhead. Before I started doing gigs I wasn’t really a clubhead myself. I didn’t go out a lot. What I did to make sure that I had good music for the club was by putting out mixtapes and checking if people (especially clubheads) would dig it. I also regularly check the Top 40 (not that that’s my kind of music), EDM radio channel charts and Beatport top 10 to make sure I have all the hits of the moment.
It’s no problem at all that you’re 40, it’s about doing what you’r supposed to do: DJ. the crowd cares about the DJ doing a good job, not that he has a tan and just finished high school. For example, at he club I DJ often at we often invite a famous local DJ; he is well into his 40’s but he has so much experience and every time he makes the crowd go wild and they love him for it.
madmanParticipantLast Saturday I was DJ’ing again and I was fearing the worst because the boss was on a holiday. However, he asked 4 guys to keep an eye out. They were checking up on me all the time if I needed a drink or anything and every time someone came to talk they’d ask if they were annoying me / touching my gear. It made me feel very safe and comfortable, and I had a great night rocking my new NS6.
