Thanks for the feedback!
Prude leRudeParticipantThanks very much!
Prude leRudeParticipantI earned £10 for an hour in a pub through mates for my first one. £50 for an hour warming up for my first proper club gig. Have been playing out for a few months now and getting regular gigs but getting guaranteed payment still seems difficult. I live in Brighton and it seems most promoters here when you’re new to it will pay you based on the amount of people who you bring with you. Saying this I don’t do pubs or bars where I could get paid guaranteed £50-£100 depending on how long I play for but would have to compromise on the tunes I play. I would rather take free gigs playing what I want, concentrate on production as well and build up a following that way until I can get paid more for what I want. Just had my first tune signed so hopefully this will start working!
Prude leRudeParticipantYeah I agree with Kent, just remember that even if every single one of your mixes is a little out, if your tune selection is good then no one apart from other DJs in the room will really care. Also make sure you don’t let one bad mix get to you, put it behind you straight away.
Prude leRudeParticipantI haven’t ever played out sober. I find the nerves get me too much if I’ve not had a drink at all. If I am playing somewhere where they are paying me well and I want to get asked back though I will only have a couple and make sure I’ve had enough to take the edge off the nerves but not enough to impair my judgement at all. Works for me.
Prude leRudeParticipantMy production isn’t at a standard for me to be self releasing or be signed to a label as yet. I have been getting loads of promoters interested in my mixes and booking me for nights, just struggling to get fans on all of my pages.

Thanks!
Prude leRudeParticipantJust wanted to bump this thread as have just completed and mastered the track, new link is up, thoughts and feedback as always much appreciated!
Prude leRudeParticipantTrack is now complete, needs mastering to make it louder but I don’t know how, any suggestions?! http://soundcloud.com/prude-lerude/dropped-my-lighter
Prude leRudeParticipantThanks so much for the feedback guys, I really appreciate it. Really happy to hear that people like it, going to be starting on a new track this weekend so watch this space for more.
Prude leRudeParticipantIs it not the case that ‘EDM’ has become a genre in itself? Whenever I hear people talk about it they’re generally referring to the type of stuff that Guetta / aviici etc. are making. I never hear it being used to describe d&b or dubstep…

This is so true, some things I have tried out and almost cringed at as I do it thinking it was awful then you listen back and think actually it sounds pretty good.
Prude leRudeParticipantI think the problem in the end was with a USB port, seems to be fine in two of them and not the other, just wasn’t paying attention which one I was using for the first few gigs. Luckily though all went smoothly at my first big gig last week!
Prude leRudeParticipantCheers Phil, trying to come up with a logo with the P and the R as contrasting characters, a prudish looking P and a rude boy R!
Prude leRudeParticipantI’ve got tricky by run dmc that I love to drop over dooms night by timo maas or flat beat by Mr Oizo
