I use MIK and have often fallen into the trap of letting that dictate what I play but I have gotten better at this.

I fell in love with dance music after tuning into a pirate radio station way back in 1994. I loved the music and used to make “mixes” for friends by using two tape decks!

Once I started going clubbing I always felt like it should be me in the booth, especially when the DJ was crap – I knew I could do better!

I was once a complete noob using a mixer I wasn’t familiar with. I couldn’t find the headphone volume control and accidentally turned down “main” while in the mix! If that wasn’t bad enough, I didn’t notice because I had two booth speakers either side of my ears that were turned up too much.
It took one of the other DJs who was on before me to come back and point out my mistake.
Now I always figure the mixer before I doing anything else – although using internal mixing in Traktor makes this simpler.

I started off with Ableton after I saw people like Sasha using it. I had fun but it never felt quite right so I tried a demo of Traktor Pro 2.

What can I say, I never looked back.
