Here’s one .. I usually play electronic music these days: deep, tech, techno… but I miss those days when Hip Hop was made like this… with a Barry White sample to boot 🙂

I get angry with EDM promos too, I never play this stuff! But I just ignore it, I don’t have time to get into arguments over music I’m not at all interested in 🙂 I’m not anywhere as big as Jay Lumen, but like him I just want to make nice parties, and that’s a full time job 🙂

I meant if we can eventually see stems displays in Traktor on the laptop screen…maybe I should try it o my Windows setup (where I can put the latest version of Traktor) as perhaps the separate stems displays may not be as missed as I currently think – after all, know your music.
I really don’t want extra screens. I’m happy using a K2 and plugging in CDJs via USB 🙂

Off-topic (and apologies to the original poster) but this reminds me of messages Jay Lumen (a tech house DJ) keeps getting from EDM DJs on Soundcloud and Facebook 😛

I’d be surprised if there is anything to do this, just for copyright reasons alone.
That and the possible instability of something reliant on an internet connection…

Curious to see if you find anything though!

that’s a pity.. i’d love them to become a big player. Good reliable software, and always nice to have more competition. Also one of the best pieces of software for value for money.

I’m sure licensing Serato is more expensive for them than MixVibes… but with the current synergy between the 2 brands… I guess so.

This is only a guess.. but you’d have to sell the original vinyl and CDs along with the hard drive. Selling them separately would be seen as illegal as you could just keep making new hard drives and re-selling them.

There’s actually some (mostly record labels and their lawyers) that say it’s illegal to digitize your collection and that you should buy the song again as an audio file…

As you’re new to it all, rent a good system, it’ll be cheaper. Make sure it’s costs are covered by the fee you’re getting paid, or they can rent/insure it directly themselves.
Once you’re making enough money and have enough gigs lined up, then think about buying equipment.

The guys who posted above know more than me about what to buy for a mobile setup, I play in clubs, so take their advice on gear.

    Dankjewel DJ Vintage!
I don’t DJ for free and these movie fans will go for the free gigs just to look cool and be able to say they are a DJ and maybe try it just once. The ones who have more success will be those that bring a lot of people – that’s what most venues care about anyway these days… So many times, venue managers/owners don’t even listen to DJ mixes before hiring them…

damn you auto correct and phone touch screens!
correction.. deep house is usually 110-124bpm.
    tech house is usually 124-128bpm.
edm 128-130bpm. may people mean edm when they say electro… I’ve found this out when supposed to be playing electro and the club manager says, “No, no, no, electro, you know Steve Aoki, Afrojack …”

Not sure how to define progressive. I guess listen to Eric Prydz current stuff… what I like about him is he does what he wants and not be commercial to make money…. though in my opinion, more to listen to than to dance to, but great stuff.

If you still have your old set-up keep it and use that.. you can always buy a soundcard which comes with DVS software. I believe mixvibes is the cheapest.. I use Traktor Scratch Pro with a Traktor Audio 6 ad 1 Technics 1210mk5g and 1 Pioneer CDJ2000 at home. Serato is also supposed to be great for hip hop… I started DJing hip hop with vinyl too but now I play electronic music (I’m not a big fan of much hip hop after 2005).

Plug in the CDJs as USB Midi control devices on Traktor to control Decks A & B (if you control C & D).
You will have to load his music on your computer and he will be able to use the CDJs pretty much as if he had plugged in USB sticks/CDs (selecting songs, cueing up, changing pitch, etc), except now you can sync all 4 decks. If he doesn’t want to temporarily copy his music to your hard drive, you can also plug in a USB stick that he can remove after finishing.

I’m not sure about aggregate sound cards so I’d imagine the easiest way is just to have all 4 decks (yours and his) going to 4 channels on the main mixer, and EQing from there. With this method, you’ll have to beatgrid his songs in Traktor and set up cue points, if he uses any. I’ve never tried importing beatgrids/cue points from Rekordbox’d songs.

Actually I’ve never tried this, we always had to manually beatmatch from DJ to DJ.

If this isn’t what you want.. you can try to use USB sticks in 2 more CDJs (for you), for a total of 4 CDJs and manually beatmatch. Personally trying to keep 4 decks sync’d up by beatmatching by ear is not my idea of fun…
For sync get the Nexus range and you can probably sync all 4 of the CDJs.

Failing that… if anyone knows if CDJs can be sync’d up to midi clocks, maybe they can help.

I feel that until they bring stems showing on your computer screen it won’t have a big uptake. Native Instruments proprietary equipment to show these are just too bulky and expensive for me and I’m sure many others.

Perhaps it will be possible to use in Ableton easily in a similar (but different) way.
