13th November..at my school fest Zephyrus 2014 to a crowd of over a hundred.. It was an unforgettable experience. Definitely something I would want to do again soon.

What kind of music do you DJ with?

If you are mixing in a “less than perfect” environment… I recommend taking a few tracks that have been mixed similarly to what you’re after and run them through a spectrum analyser plugin. Voxengo SPAN is a good free one. You can see the levels of the spectrum and try to match them with yours.

All the best and do share your track in the music and mixes section once it is finished 🙂

I’ll be going for a basic degree in engineering while working on my music. I’m more of a producer than a DJ. Hopefully I’ll already be earning from my music by the time I get the degree.

Till now, I’ve played over 10 gigs and I have an upcoming remix release on a label this month.

What about you? Tell me more about yourself.

I thought by “Jr. College” he meant 10th grade. Since opting for “Science” and going to college after two years was mentioned.

It’s the first time I’ve met someone from my area here. Nice to meet you!

May I ask where in India are you from, DJ Aakash?

To be frank, no I don’t think you need any kind of course for music production. Once you start making music, you’ll only get better at it as time passes. The institutions will definitely speed you up. But I think that money would be better used to buy more gear and learn for yourself.

You’ll already have a computer, and pair of decent speakers/headphones. If you’re thinking about production as a career, I’m guessing you’ve already tried a hand at a DAW. Now all you need is some inspiration and some creativity and you’re on your way to making chart-topping tracks 🙂

    @DJ Akash

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. The police in India most likely won’t know that you have to BUY the music and not rip it off youtube. I doubt you’ll get into trouble because of that. I buy all my music through Beatport. End of story.

I get what you’re asking Baltazar,

But you’ve got it wrong, the individual keys do not radiate a specific vibe or feeling. The only “feeling” that can be related to key’s is that Major keys are Happy, Bright, Positive and Grand while Minor keys are Dark, Moody, Gloomy and more Emotional.

For example, C minor can sound romantic and whimsical, while D major can sound triumphant, and D minor can sound gloomy

Actually, that doesn’t depend on the key at all. That is mostly affected by the way the track has been composed…You say C minor sounds romantic…take a listen to this track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv0y0On8ZGQ

In no way that sounds romantic, does it?

If you are going after a certain feeling, first choose between a Major and Minor and then get your brains on writing a powerful melody than bothering much about the “key” that you should use.

    Hey DJ Spars,

I can understand your hesitation. I’m an 11th grade student (I think that is the Indian equivalent of Jr. College) with roughly the same aim as you.
If you ask me, I recommend taking up science and doing something which can later be a reliable source of income (Something like graphic design, advertising or similar). Through your course over the next 4-6 years, you’ll have to keep up this and your music production and build up a strong fan base.

Once you’ve come this far, congratulate yourself and then start looking at the ways you can earn from your music:
    1) Composing for Films/Games
    2) DJing
    3) Writing Jingles
    4) Working in a studio

All this while you work on your own music and get signed to a label to distribute it across stores. Please note, that there is no guarantee for success. You’ll just have to keep at it until you strike the right chord.

Though I wish you best of luck for an awesome career and a beautiful life ahead.
    All the best,

If I may say something, guys…

Ever since I’ve been on this site (almost 3 years now)..I’ve met many here who are very helpful to others and will never hesitate to help anyone needs it.

Just a thought of mine, why doesn’t DDJT open up a fund for the community? Ya’ know something like Kickstarter or so?
Don’t flame me for saying this, it’s just a suggestion and I’m sure many will appreciate it.

Helping other DJs become better. Isn’t that the whole point of this site?

Chuck is right. If you are going for Traktor, nothing will work except Native Instruments’ own stuff. I’m not sure why you would want to use the MTP2 with Traktor, it’s one of the controllers with a barely usable integration. The .tsi has been made quite half-heartedly if you ask me.

I would say you are better off opting for another software, and for the MTP2 nothing better to start than Serato DJ Intro. I’ve used the MTP2 with loads of software including Serato DJ (Flawless Performance), Virtual DJ (Close Second), Cross DJ (Decent Integration), Deckadance (On par with Cross), Mixxx (Works fine), Ableton Live (No Jogwheels, but the pads work great) and Traktor is the worst.
