Really nice mix here mate. Made for some great afternoon listening ๐
I look forward to your next mix!

GroovepunkParticipantThanks MrQ
New show just went up!
GroovepunkParticipantNo problem. My website is at http://www.groovepunk.co.uk
I’m currently in the process of building a new one though as I this website a bit old now and often clunky and slow to load!
Good luck with your project. I look forward to seeing the finished site ๐
GroovepunkParticipantHi Shoni.
Based on your requirements (embedding various social media sitesโ content/a place a DJ logo and a bio), I agree with Tonecraft that a website is the way to go.
JustGo is more about automating your social media posts, Soundcloud posts, Mixcloud posts etc. You do get an artist landing page, but it’s fairly basic. ToneDen is halfway between JustGo and your own website. It does do some integration of social media, but probably not quite in the way you want.
These days you can get free or cheap plug-ins for websites that pull in your facebook feed and soundcloud/mixcloud/you tube posts in a reasonably structured way. My site uses a few of these and I’ve been fairly happy with them –
Wordpress is definitely an option and there are also fairly cheap website creation services out there if you need extra help.
Hope this is useful!
GroovepunkParticipantWhat an oddly well-timed debate! I literally just picked up an SX2 – which will be replacing a TM8 as my primary controller.
Terry_42 is totally correct (as always) when he says that it’s completely subjective and frankly you can’t go far wrong with either controller.
The TM8 is an amazing piece of kit for the price. It certainly has a premium feel, great jogs and hasn’t let me down. For me it was actually the size, layout and overall feel that prompted the switch. It’s hard to nail down, but I just prefer the layout of the SX2. To me the control positions feel more natural and the knobs, pads and faders feel more robust. I also really like the needle search, the way loops are handled and do plan on using the DVS functionality.
As you asked in your original post, there certainly aren’t any ‘killer features’ that separate the two – just lots of little differences that may mean you may prefer one over the other. As always, if you can go to a shop and test both, that would be the best thing to do.
If you have any other questions about either controller, I’ll happily test them out and let you know!
GroovepunkParticipantI have to admit I was quite excited when I first saw the auto cue-point functionality as I tend to place 75% of cue points in largely the same places in every track.
My hope was that the auto function would put the common ones’ in and then I could customise as needed. From the above posts it would seem some people have been reasonable happy but unfortunately I haven’t had the same experience. For me, there are two things stopping this from being an amazing tool:
1. The detection algorithm seems to consistently miss the start of a phrase by around 1/2 a beat. It did this every time, on pretty standardly-structured Deep House (Serato had no trouble getting the grids in the right place)
2. There doesn’t seem to be a pattern to where it chooses to put the cue-points. I would have liked to have at least the first few placed at common basic mix-in points (e.g. 9, 17, 25, 33). What I don’t want is cues placed slap-bang in the middle of the breakdown – as happened on a few occasions. It’s all subjective of course, which is why it probably needs some customisation features. Perhaps the ability to preset where each auto cue is placed based on phrases? And maybe the ability to select the number of cue points set, so that it doesn’t fill the whole bank up with cues you don’t need?
Of course this is just v1 of the tool and I’m sure it will improve over time, but it’s a shame it’s not particularly usable at this stage (to me anyway).
GroovepunkParticipantHi there
Unfortunately I have to agree with Terry.
I picked up a pair of DJE-1500’s for exactly the same purposes as you (backup for DJing, general use) and I don’t use them for either. It’s difficult to nail down exactly what the issue is, but they just don’t feel right. From my perspective, I think they’re just too big. The fit is ok, but they’re quite heavy (for in-ears) which starts to get uncomfortable after a while.
Plus, the sound quality just isn’t there. The bass is ok but the highs are too tinny, making the sound unatural and nothing like any other pair of headphones I own (including a pair of Pioneer over-ears). I use a pair of Beyerdynamic DTX101’s for every day listening and they blow the DJE-1500’s out of the water for quality (for a 1/3 of the price).
In answer to your specific questions:
Q. How well do they stay in?
A. Pretty well, but they do get uncomfortable after a whileQ. Is there some โstrange feelingโ when using them in the normal position (the cable in front and not over the ear)?
A. It definitely doesn’t feel like the natural position. The cables are thick plastic, which don’t feel nice brushing your faceQ. How is the bass โ too less or too much?
A. The bass is good. Probably could have been a little heavier but not lackingQ. How is the general build quality โ do they seem to last?
A. You get the feeling they will last and survive bangs and scrapesI hope that helps. Obviously my comments are all very subjective I’m sure there are people out there who like them. Personally I wish I hadn’t bought them, as they barely get used!
Let me know if you have any other questions.

GroovepunkParticipantGroovepunkParticipantThanks guys.
I think I’ll do a bit of research and defo call Trading Standards.
It’s such a shame, as Pioneer make some great gear and are a well regarded brand. Sadly their customer support falls well short!
GroovepunkParticipantI can’t comment on Metabliss but I use Metadatics and it’s always been fast. Maybe worth a try?

GroovepunkParticipantGreat work! Really enjoyed this one ๐

GroovepunkParticipantHey Mike
Just had a listen to the mix. I’ve heard some individual tracks like this before but rarely take the time to hunt down a full mix, so thanks!
Great tracks, smooth mixing and lots of fun. Really enjoyed it ๐

I was a bit too young to go to the raves but I certainly remember the tracks (which were my intro to dance music).

GroovepunkParticipantAwesome work James.
Not too sure about that House Of Pain remix ๐ but the rest was great!
