Hi Garron! Sorry for the late response.. I’m Steve, the Scratch tutor for Digital DJ Tips.

To get started in scratching, there are a few decent tutorials out there, Short-e as J_schutta said, and you should definitely check out DJ Angelo’s channel on YouTube.

But to be honest, a lot of these guys are way too advanced for you to be able to learn the very basics from. We developed our Scratching For Controller DJ’s course to address this issue and start from the very basics, on DJ controllers. The course is currently closed but will re-open some time in the coming months for a fresh enrolment.. Please make sure you are signed up to our mailing list at digitaldjtips.com to make sure you get news as to when we open.

In the meantime here’s what I suggest to get you underway..

First, watch the videos I made for optimising your gear, I didn’t do one for your specific controller, but the same principles of Jogwheel, Crossfader, latency etc all apply to you can adapt accordingly.. you’ll find the videos here:

    http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIg0Lz0SYgKIpAjagF8WTc218zHR2CNOz

Then, check out DJ Angelo’s scratching basics, and copy what he does.. it’ll be a little different for a controller, but again, the principles are the same… give it a go and see if you get the scratching bug!

    Cheers, Steve

Hi Jay, welcome! I’m Steve, the scratch tutor for Digital DJ Tips, and as Terry has already said we have an awesome training program that would be perfect for you. It’s currently full but will reopen in the coming months, and I see that you’ve joined our mailing list so you’ll get all the info. In the meantime the weekly training emails you’ll get will give you a solid grounding getting you ready to learn to scratch..!
