Effects should be totally unobtrusive to the music
I can see that what James Zabelia does is truly amazing, but if i went to hear music and got that, i’d want my money back. If you want to see Zabelia play effects all night, that’s what you pay for and that’s what you’d get.

D-Jam, i heard a DJ using flange phase and filter on one tune in his set, it was soooooo subtle.. I had to ask him weather it was part of the tune.
To me that’s how effects should be used. Sparingly and intelligently.
I don’t wanna hear a Tim Westwood stylee airhorn over a killer track every 30 seconds!

I’ve never, in my entire life, gone to see a DJ (or a band). I’ve gone to hear a few, mind

Mixed in key/ camelot, but dont be exclusive with this, trust your ear too.. I mixed two tracks that according to Mixed in Key should have clashed like a trainwreck but sounded SCHERWEEEET!

a DJ / Writer/ Producer i know back in the day used to swap notes with chemists / importers / dealers of rare and unusual substances on the effects of such stuff that was in circulation
If the mdma was “trippy” you’d get tancey floaty tracks, or it was a stompy gurny feel you’d get a harder edge…

Did Tag (Alan Taggart ) do a few of the deck duties there, i aint seen him to ask since 3 Novembers ago at the Wired gig with Steve Vertigo and Tony Ross?
    My memories proper hazy

And on the same note of hazy memory, i never realised another mate i’ve known for years DJ’d the revenge and the Hoddlesden raves until i reminisced about a police raid on the Egerton Road… “Err, i was playing that night” :lol

Just treated myself to a mammoth 3 hour on the decks… And guess who absently minded locked the front door, so the wife and kids had to knock to get in…

I think your more relaxed when playing out, maybe playing at home to record adds an element of pressure?
